Networking problems

I can't get my 2 computers to see one another in the network. I have a laptop and a desktop both running winxp. Can someone tell me what to do to get them to see one another on the network? Thanks

you can search this forum for similar issues...I'm sure u'll find a solution...U will basically be better of using a crossover cable if u don't have an existing Nwtwork that u want the 2 pc's to join....u can assign static ip's and it'll be fine (as I said,search the forums for more...)
