Hello friends.
im not into networking stuffs..

Actually i have an acer laptop and a assembled desktop running windows xp sp2.
so i decided to connect the both for file and data sharing,

I searched for step by step manuals on Google then i started---

i bought a crossover Ethernet cable and connected the lappy wit my desktop..
from "my network places" i can detect both the systems..but not able to access it..

well i have configured static IP address on both the computers...
1st one has the IP 192.168.0.1 and
2nd one has the IP 192.168.0.2 with
a subnet of 255.255.255.0.

and both the systems are under the same workgroup..
I have disabled the antivirus and windows firewall...
but when i ping from any comp with the IP of other its displays a timeout msg..

so can anybody tell me whats went wrong..:(
reply asap
thanx

in Windows XP SP2 system
go to start run and type regedit
Now search the registry for restrictanonymous
and change the value of restrictanonymous to 0 :)

ya done it..bt no use!!!!:(

share atleast one folder on both machines with full access to everyone. then while trying to access the machine type machine name along with folder name.

eg: \\192.168.0.2\sharedFolder

try if this works

when u say "u can detect both systems" what happens when you double click on the computer icon ? does that show you Printers and Scheduler etc folder ? if it does not, then the tcp ip settings are not correct.

Network is fine, just check with your user permissions.

Also hope your in Admin account or at least have privileges!
As mentioned before you must run network wizard and enable file sharing.

Last option, use BORGCHAT and transfer files, ofcouse transfering folders with lots of files will be impossible but one or 2 can be easily done.
