Hi everyone

I bought the following inorder to assemble a home pc myself.
Processor- Intel Core i3 2120 3.3GHz
Motherboard- Intel DH61WW
RAM- Kingston DDR3 4GBx1
Monitor- Samsung sync master 2033
SMPS - i ball 230v

I have completed assembling according to the details provided but upon trying to start it up it is not booting up...nothing comes on the monitor.
monitor worked when i connected it to another CPU,so it's not problem with monitor.
when i switch on the power and press the power button, the power LED lights up, fan rotates, Num lock LED responds, when i remove the RAM and turn it on i hear 3 beeps from the mother board...i put the ram in each of the slots but it didn't work.tried with corsair 4gb ram and same problem.
tried changing 2-3 smps but no use.

an someone please help me out about where the problem would be?

Try removing the battery of the Motherboard and reset CMOS.
Insert 1 RAM module without inserting the battery.

Also try the RAM modules on some other motherboard to ascertain that the RAM modules are not faulty.

You can also remove the processor, reseat the processor and then attach the CPU Heat Sink Properly. When you start, does the Heat sink fan operate?
Also have u connected the 4 pin molex on the motherboard for additional power?

Yup, check that you have connected the 4 pin ATX 12V connector to the motherboard.

How many beeps do you hear when the RAM is inserted?

Which other SMPS did you try with?

In future, ask your dealer to test your setup before leaving.
If the dealer is nearby you can still do this.

Why would you buy such an SMPS.
Exactly!
Have seen systems refuse to even power up with these generic PSUs.
If the other 2-3 units you used were also of this caliber, I wouldn't rule out the PSU.

If on a tight budget, sell the i3 2120 and pick up the G620 with 90% of the performance.
With the 3.5k saved, you could get an excellent PSU.

have you connected the heatsink to the socket in the motherboard

yes. checked ram on other board, it is OK.

pl help me guys.i am going mad :(

happened the same to me when my gfx card was not seated properly.

i suggest you try with a good smps first. maybe a corsair vx450 or something of the same wattage.

There are cheaper power supplies in the range of ~1.5-2k which performs well for low-end systems like this one. FSP used to have the Saga 350 or the 400W around that range. Not sure about the current availability though. Even the Corsair VS series is good for such builds. For eg. Corsair Builder Series VS 450 Power Supply

Do not rule out the power supply here. Although it is highly unlikely that the power supply caused it, there is a chance a bad unit is refusing to power it properly. The only other issue I can think of is a bad memory stick. Swap it and check. Else take the entire system to the shop where you sourced the components from and seek their help.

i think problem is in connections. can anyone help me out.
any guide/manual regarding how to connect to motherboard ?
thanks guys for replies.

Your memory is DOA. get it changed.
Got the manual from Intel site - Redirect Notice

i think your motherboard vga might not be working properly. you mentioned you do not hear beeps when ram stick is inserted in mobo. so problem must be in mobo.
take it back from where you bought and tell them to assemble and check it in front of you.

I once faced a wierd problem when i had over tightened the screws on the motherboard to the chasis.

It used to boot up intermittently.

young_chap , dude, pack all the stuff up and visit any nearby computer shop who assemble computers. He will easily get all your stuff working in just 100-200 bucks.
It would be a peace of mind for you by just shelling out few more bucks.

P.S. for everyone else, expect a new "Suggest me a new power supply thread" soon. :bleh:

There could be accidental damage during installation of the processor. Check carefully alignment of the CPU socket pins.

There should be 2 connectors from your SMPS to your Motherboard.
>> 24 pin ATX connector
>> 4 pin ATX 12V connector

Are these 2 connected?

If still not working, your dealer will be happy to test your components, take it back to them.
While you are there, get a better PSU.

The VS series is poor.
Poor quality caps.
The CX was already pretty big drop down from the VX, but the new VS is inexcusable.

For an entry level system like this, a VS supply is more than sufficient. Agreed the caps might be of low quality compared to the VX/TX/HX/AX series and wouldn't have an 80+ rating either but then you get what you pay for. There is a reason why Corsair names it 'Builder Series'. Besides, this is an SKU specifically targeting the Indian and Chinese markets. You wouldn't find it elsewhere. Not even on their website.

But all said and done, this unit is miles ahead of a 250 Rs. iBall pile of poop!

750 really ?? So, u got looted by the dealer who sold you overpriced SMPS.
Take a small advice for free, save up some money, get a good smps(probably FSP if you didnt want to spend much). Coz that i3 of yours need something better than iball atleast.
