I wanna buy a cheap combo so that I can play the Orange Box and CSS at full details on a 19Inch LCD (1440x900)

I am gonna overclock the CPU so looking at a

E2160
Abit IP35-E
Transcend 2GB
GFX- ?? (Even a Dx. 9 one will do if it performs well with the above mentioned games.)
Seagate 250GB

Please suggest the GFX and tell me whether this is ok or not.

I have a rig almost similar to what you are planning to build. I am using a E2140 @ 3.2 Ghz 24x7. E2140/2160 processors can easily be taken to these speeds and I would suggest going for a E2140 only as its very cheap and will save you some cash for the GPU.

Make sure you buy minimum DDR2-800 Mhz RAM if you plan to over clock. And for the GPU, well I would suggest the following :

1. 8600GT if on a tight budget of around 5k.

2. HD 3850 if on a budget of 9-10k.

3. 8800GT if you have 12-13k.

Also check out some used cards being sold in the Market section and you may end up getting a good deal.

u may even consider the e4500 at 2.2...conroe with 2mb ,has 11x multiplier..and runs cool...goes for abt 2.2k+ above the e2140...

haha i know i`ll be stepping into a hornets nest here...:cool2:

if it had been in the days of e4300 i wud have said for teh e2xxx series because both were essentially allendale core with the 2x with half the ram....had the same l2 stepping

but the e4500 is diff story..its a conroe.with half the ram and a lower rated fsb..has m0 stepping which afaik the e2180 supports...but den the e2180 is costlier than the e2140/60, thus closing the price gap even further,.

e4500 ocs as good as the e2xx series owing to a reduced vcore volt.....
e4500 is better. the cache makes a big difference for apps and games. clock for clock the e4500 performs better :ohyeah: ..if u can afford it see no reason not to go for it....

If you are looking to play online games (more gameplay and less graphics), ATI X19xx series is a much better option than 8600GT. Obviously the more money you put in, the better stuff you get but the card is fine for the games you mentioned.

PS: I have no idea of the cost but try getting the XT series.
