PC Peripherals new comp

guys...

its that year when i am thinking of changing my comp. the old one is a 1.6 Ghz P4 system which is being donated to a school for privileged.

My requirements for a new system are

Usage - Surfing, DVD, DVD ripping, occasional gaming(not heavy gaming)

I would like to use this as a source for TV and HT as well. So would like to have a component out for video and an optical out for the audio. Can i later on add a card of HDMI (when the LCD/Plasma bug hits me :D).

I am open to either AMD or Intel. Would like to have Vista running on it.

1. Proc
2. Motherboard
3. Cabinet + PSU
4. Hard Disk (i have 2 external HDD... 320GB+40GB). So my requirements are minimal with regards to space here. A smaller capacity drive is ok.
5. RAM -- 1 GB or 2 ??
6. LCD monitor (would like to have one which has good color reproduction). Not too keen on a 19 inch but if its a good one, no worries.
7. I have a dvd writer (external).. so a basic dvd drive is enough ...
8. need to have a quite a few usb ports for my accessories
9. Keyboard and mouse... would like to reduce clutter... is going wireless worthwhile ?

Anything i have missed out please include... just give a rough estimate on how much this would cost as well. i live in chennai.

Look at my configuration in the signature. Suits your requirements perfectly. If you dont need an Hard disk, go for TFT monitor and E6600 cpu.

If you have ANY doubts, do let me know.

And keep up the good work for underprivileged children!

would e6600 be a neccessity for my use... wont it be an overkill... or would it let me hold the machine for the next few years....

what tft would be a good choice based on my requirements ??

Stay with E6300 then. For monitor, go for the above as Nuke suggested. Everything should fall within your budget.

You can go with this config:

Intel C2D E6300 1.86 GHz

ASUS P5B-VM/ Intel DG965WH Motherboard

Zebronics Cabinet with Zebronics 500W Platinum SMPS

Corsair Value Select 1GB RAM DDR2 800 MHz

Seagate 160GB HDD SATAII HDD (Internal HDD has it's own charm and you may need one since you might wish to install Windows Vista and other Heavy applications like Games on it).

Graphics Card (Wait for some time till NVidia's Geforce 8600 and 8300 series gets launched in India, they will be completely DirectX 10 based GPUs)

SONY 17" LCD Monitor [Prefer WIDE Screen]

LiteON DVD ROM Drive [Since you have an external DVD Writer]

Logitech Keyboard + Mouse [Wireless]

Altec Lansing ATP3 (2.1 Speakers)

hey arnov...

thanks... just a few more questions

1. should i get a single 1 GB RAM or 2 * 512 MB RAM
2. which sony monitor (model) would you suggest and how much would it be.
3. will the onboard video on asus support vista
4. how do i get video (component) out from this machine

thanks

Go for 2X512 MB RAM coz then u'll hav dual channel mode going = better performace.
Also wud suggest a 19inch LCD either Viewsonic1912wor Samsung 940BW and if can spend a lil more on a monitor then go for a Dell.
