Firstly, Read these:-

Second, Please post your total budget.

Now for some rough suggestions:-
I would suggest going for DDR3+AM3.

RAM: 2x2GB Gskill 1333Mhz @~4k
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H @~5k
GPU: 9800 GT @~5.5k (Note: This is the current alternative/equivalent to/of the 8800GT, subject to change as i don't know your GPU/total budget)
PSU: Seasonic 380W/Corsair VX450 @3k/4k.

Please please post your complete budget for ALL the components you are about to buy. It would also help to know your display size/gaming resolution. Only then can real suggestions be given out.

The suggestion you have given is nice. I game at 1440*900 presently.

Looking forward to get a better config!!

Yeah budget would be around 20K!

And will the PSU's suggested support the 9800GT (is it the DDR3 edition?)

will the 9800gtx or 9800gx2 be better than a 9800gt??
please post prices of 9800gts and 9800gx2 also.

The HD 4850 is your best bet. It performs on par with the 9800GTX+/GTS250.
The other alternatives you have inquired about are not really worth buying as of now.

Ok so here's what i have decided to get:

Athlon II 240

Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H

2X2GB GSkill DDR3 1333MHz RAM

XFX 9800GTX 1 GB DDR3

Dell 22" LCD

Can anybody give me the current prices of all these components?

^ Why are you wasting money on that GPU? It'll likely cost more and perform lower to an HD 4850.
For 5.5k = Get a 9800GT
For 6.5k = Get a 4850

Also, the Samsung SW2233 22 inch will probably be a more VFM choice over the dell.

If i do assemble the following what would be the cost:

Phenom II 550 BE

XFX 9800GT

PSU

I already have 2GB Ram and please name some compatible motherboard.

I’d suggest the ATI Radeon HD 4770 instead of the 9800GT. 40nm fab, lower power consumption, lower heat and better performance. And yeah a 785G board with Athlon II X2 240 will make a good combo. As asked, please mention your budget and the components you’re looking to buy for a more detailed suggestion.
