Hi,

My friend is looking to setup a gaming/entertainment pc to use with his 32" full hd lcd tv. His budgest is around 40K. Please suggest a good system that is upgrade friendly. He has no intention of playing crysis or of having bragging rights regarding his computer, so please take that into consideration. The games he is looking forward to play on the pc are Batman: Arkham City/ Batman: Arkham City/ Darksiders / POP Forgotten sands/ God of War series / Assasin's Creed / Call of Duty series/ Fall out series

Intel Vs AMD and nVidia Vs AMD
No particular brand is needed by him. However I myself am an AMD diehard... so I would obviously prefer an AMD rig. No problems in going for an intel rig if the suggested rig is considerably better for similar amounts of money.

Second hand items may be considered it reasonable warranty is remaining.

So anyways, I hope to hear some good suggestions from you experts. We are both located in Mumbai, so please keep mumbai prices in mind when suggesting items.

Components Description Price (INR)

Processor Core i5 2320 9300

Motherboard Intel DH67BL(B3) 5200

RAM Corsair 4GB DDRIII 1333MHz 1400

HDD Seagate 1 TB 7200.12 2900

GPU MSI Nvidia N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II/OC 1GB GDDR5 14000

Cabinet NZXT Gamma 2100

PSU Seasonic S12II 520w 3500

Key Board Logitech MMKB 400

Mouse Logitech MX 518 1250

ODD Samsung 22X SATA DVD 950

Total 41000

Check the latest AMD BD reviews. Intel SB still reigns supreme. For such a high-midrange rig SB i5 is the perfect fit.

For GPU you can consider the HD6950 as an alternative. But for processor go for the Sandy Bridge i5 Quad eyes closed.

Thanks for the suggestions. A couple of questions though...the 2 components I am most concerned about are the motherboard and the power supply. These are the items I do NOT want to replace in a couple of years in order to cope with additions. How graphics intensive are the games he has mentioned he wants to play? Considering the resolution(1920x1080 at 60hz max), I would assume that a mid range graphics card should be able to power him for now on most games. Hence he might be better of by compromising on the graphics card and getting a better power supply. Similarly for the motherboard+processor....Would it be better to go for a better mobo which has a form factor that will hang around a while(socket 1155/am3+ or whatever) and get a lower processor for now?

Errr...

The mobo is already a H67 ie., LGA1155 socket. So it is compatible with IvyBridge. Though it doesnt have all solid capacitors. So you can opt for a slightly more Asus or Giga H67 mobo(~6k-6.5k)

That PSU is as good as they come. It has rave review in JonnyGuru(Among the best PSU review sites)

Yeah GPU is a bit overkill. Suggested it since he might play more titles in the future. For the titles he plays a HD6850 ~ 9.2k-9.5k is sufficient enough for 60FPS+ @ FHD.

Sounds good. What I meant about a better SMPS was more wattage, not the brand/model being inadequate. Wondering whether it makes sense for him to go for a 650/750w ps so that in case he decides to get a better graphics card a year or so down the line, he wont find himself needing to replace the power supply unit too. I believe the higher end graphics cards are quite power hungry. What about ram? is 4gb really enough? that too, the 1400 price you have mentioned i believe is that of a single stick. That would slow down the performance some since it would then run in single channel mode instead of dual channel. If i decide to go for the 6850, that would save me ~5k from my budget. So what changes would you recommend to the ram and power supply unit to fit this limit?

^650w is needed only if you want to do a 2*HD6850(XFire). 520w is more than sufficient for this system even if you run 6 HDD's!

Not much of a real life performance penalty if you use a single stick instead of a dual channel mode. Unless he going to use VMWare or use memory intensive applications 4GB RAM is more than enough for gaming on Win7 64 bit. But if you have the budget and insist on more RAM then go for a ~2*4GB dual channel kit for ~3k.
