Just bought a 1.5tb Samusung Green hdd. When I plugged it in then it was not detected in the bios and Vista didn't boot fully (system hangs at the loading screen). In XP it boots after pausing for a while but hangs when I check for h/w changes in device manager.

Did a google search and saw this thread with some guy facing similar problem; New hard drive causes old one to not boot - Hard-Disks - Storage

Specs: A64 3600+, ASUS M2NPV-MX, 8600GT, 3 HDDs(160gb seagate, 640aaks, 500aacs)

Any ideas folks?

disconnect all but the new hdd -

1) does it detect in bios ?

2) change port on mbb ? - now ?

3) change data cable ? - now?

4) try in socket where other hdd is already getting detected in bios ? - now ?

5) go back to dealer from where u got and get it xchanged, within 48 hrs everything is across the desk.

Tried all those options already. Bought it from itwares and I don't want to RMA it unless it is definitely doa.

I guess I'll try is plugging it in another pc/enclosure.

does it spin up ? - dont connect it to the mbb , just give it power and then start the PC - can u feel it spin up ? if it doesn't even spin up.....

Don't take too much time.... Either send it back to dealer or RMA it.. Dealer would not accept it for replacement after 2-3 days...
