Seriously!!! 17" CRT monitor :O Get the above config with a 22" monitor. That would be much better IMHO. If you insist on Nvidia card then the MSI GTS 450 1GB GDDR5 ~ 6.8k.
But the HD5770 is much better than the GTS450.

If you have a 40k budget then with the above config just change the motherboard, GPU and PSU.
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H 5450
GPU MSI HD6850 1GB GDDR5 9500
PSU/SMPS Corsair VX 450 3400
If you are not able to find the Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H then you can go for the Asus M4A88T M/USB3 which also should be priced in the ~5.5k range

if u really want i5 then buy Intel DH61WW/ DH67VR ~4000/5100 + i5 - 2300 ~9250 and rest of config suggested by DA.

The guy who is buying is wanting to go for i5..so can someone suggest a cpu/mobo/ram of i5 as well ? Need's to be a gigabyte mobo.... Thanxx darkangel rest of the config looks good...as i said he is on a budget so will go for those things which are dead-set required the monitor can be changed at a later date :)

I am in a dilemma now if i wont suggest you a GPU then your friend wouldn't be able to play any game and if i will suggest you a decent GPU then it would be overkill for gaming at 1024x768 resolution... Well i only suggested you HD6850 coz you just mentioned now that he will upgrade his monitor within 6months otherwise i wouldn't have suggested HD6850... :)

For watching HD movies the ondie HD2000 GPU of i5 2500 is enough... theres no need to spend money on any low end GPU... :)

Intel ? Wouldn't really suggest Intel boards unless there is a dire need for the same, Also are the intel boards B3'ed yet ?

Intel makes decent boards. If someone going to use his pc at default setting then Intel can be a good choice.

I too won't suggest Intel boards because they hardly offer much of an advantage but the disadvantage is their zero/very poor OC abilities! Stay away from Intel boards IMO

what are the disadvantages other than overclocking i didn't find any.Build quality is good, solid capacitors for vrm, pcie 2.0 x16,usb 3.0, sata III etc

How do we know the build quality is solid ? We can hardly see any reviews, besides that, going by their past record the build quality isn't really commendable either (me being an intel board user for one) and not to mention ASS.
