Alright I posted the sam in the Clan thread but I think posting it here makes more sense.

I am wondering if someone still has this game installed and wouldnt mind helping me a bit.

I am thinking of buying the complete set of BF2 games (the one with all the expansions) but I am not too sure if people are still playing this online.

So if anyone still plays this or has this installed, can you please check and see if there are some servers with decent pings and is it easy to get a game nowadays?

Thanks.

I bought BF 2 when it came out but played online for about 10 minutes in total. The servers abroad gave horrible pings (800+) so it was pointless. I think you need a lot of players to make for a fun battlefield game. Not sure there are that many players in India who still play the game....

Ok, finally someone is interested in this game on TE :)

I am a veteran in BF2 now, been playing it since 4-5 years now. I play it on a weekly basis.

I have been playing on a US Based Highway Tampa server with pings around 250-300. Will post the server details later as i am in my office right now.

I have a really long history in this game. Will narrate if someone is interested :P

Check my stats in my sig. Lets plan a meet on one of the servers. Will be fun. ;)

Please ask as many questions you need before you start the playing online, will be glad to help ya'll out.

And from what i've seen, pings are ISP dependant more than the distance from the servers.

Alright Thanks anish.

Couple of quick questions.

1 I am pretty much Ok with a ping of about <300, so will it be easy to find a game? Are there enough people playing it online nowadays?

2 I havent played in a long while. Will I stand a chance in hell?

And lastly do post the server add when you get a chance. Will say hi (before you shoot me in the head) when I get the game. :P

AFAIK.. There are about 40k people totally playing yet. I dont think Bf2 will die so soon.

Some great websites to get you going :
BF2S.com - The Numbers Behind Battlefield 2
Battletracker.com
BF2Player.com - Battlefield 2 & Battlefield 2142 stats, info, and signatures
Total Battlefield
and so on.

Check out the forums more than anything else, you will get a lot of information on how to be a champ at it.

Btw, a new patch is on its way. Its v1.5, which has a new map!

The server that i usually play on is =SF= Highway tampa. I get playable pings on it during the night time (~250).
Look out for US/UK based servers, I have hathway as my ISP, so i get pretty OK pings - well atleast playable.

If you cant find the server even after searching you will have to update your vanilla BF2 to 1.41 patch along with the Tampa highway patch. (You will find them one any of the websites ive given you above)

Make sure you update Punkbuster before you play, as you might get kicked in the middle of the battle because of outdated pb client.
You can do that from :
PunkBuster Online Countermeasures

And yes, you need a bit of practice before you can actually "pwn" someone :P

The most important thing people on bf2 see is the K/D ratio. Stats can be acquired anyhow, but its more of quality kills more than anything as per my experience.

I ve been an owner of a lot of clans and ranked servers in my tenurity, mostly based in Australia. I had great pings with my previous ISP. But now, have to scavenge the game browser for any playable pinged server.

Off lately, i might not be able to join you as my beloved rig is dead. Will take a good couple of weeks before i can join back in, and who knows, i might be as good as a newb on the field again.

Happy killing ;)
