my old bajaj ironbox caught fire, i dunno how the fire started but first there was dim light tubelight i thought its somekind of voltage power cut thingy! i was sitting infront of my pc, and then i noticed some loud big phatttt noise and the iron box wire was on fire! i was f8ckin freaked out! i got one big stick and banged that ironbox from table and the fire was off! i dunno how it caught fire the switch wass off but the plug was connected to switchboard! after the incident there was a powercut and the power came back after 2mins but still there was no power in some flats after 2 to 3mins the whole building power came back can any one explain me what actually happened? and i need to buy a new ironbox suggest a good safe reliable one.

uhm, were the power cords in good shape ?

things to look for

-lightweght

-teflon coated underneath.

Strange! Use a tester and see if there's any current flowing when switch's off. Might be a problem with the switch1
+1 for Morphy Richards! They are the best in Irons.

get your mcb/fuses checked immediately

the mcb/fuse should have tripped/blown before the iron caught fire (presumably due to a short)

get your mains checked whether the live and neutral have been swapped...

Edit: @nvidiabeast: lol...checkout the post above yours...:P
