The total price of the laptop turned out to be somewhere around Rs.37000 with all taxes.

ADDITIONALLY i also bought a Targus CityGear Miami Laptop Case that looks like this!

Agreed the bag is expensive, but its the best they make for this price. Besides i wanted something that makes an impression even before opening the case to reveal the huge laptop.
Since it is my first laptop i'm really excited... please give me any suggestions and leave your comments on the above! Any member owning any of the Hp dv9000 series laptop please give me any tips on smooth running and provide me with any do's and more specifically any DONTs before i first start using the Laptop!

Since this laptop features a numeric pad on the right, I guess HP thought it prudent to center the touchpad with respect to the standard part of the keyboard.

i guess i can only tell u that when i get it today evening... its being flown in tonight! i think the touchpad IS at the centre of the keyboard conventionally and that is how it is here.. since its a 17" screen there is a numeric keypad as well, thus u see the discrepancy. but live photos tomorrow!

its here!

finally i have received the laptop and it is an absolute monster..

the laptop is bulky and even that is an understatement.. but its not too big a price to pay for the wonderful and unique experience that it provides. a review and some live photos soon....

Damn dude its very heavy.... you should have looked more into this aspect. I am telling from experience as I had the Dell Inspiron which was a pain in the behind to carry!

Congratulations on your new purchase :) As far as specs are concerned, it sounds really good! 17" screen would mean you can scrap your desktop PC :P

DOs:

Obviously, take good care of it (dont mishandle it :P)
Be careful when carrying it around as it will be damn heavy
Ensure your laptop battery gets calibrated when you start using it

DONTs:

!!!!!!!! EXTREMELY IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!
Take Vista OFF it and go for Windows XP or Ubuntu

Cheers :)

One more thing I forgot to mention, the onboard card GeForce Go 6150, although good for moderate gaming, is not a power-horse!! So dont expect to play all the latest games at high resolutions !!

thanx guys.. but this laptop is not for gaming! i bought it to do everything other than play games as i hardly get time to play any. besides i thought it was criminal to spend another 10k on a similar configuration with a dedicated graphics card just for the heck of it. i dont game so all i need is a respectable card that can handle vista.. as far as removing vista is concerned i would love to get it off my back but hp has strongly recommended against using anything other than their recovery dvd, as the warranty will be void and their prorietary quickplay and the drivers for the hardware will not be available for XP. i think its wise not to tinker around... but if anybody has a solution for this and provides me with a link on the internet to 'XPfy' my Laptop from Vista without any hassles then im open to the idea....
