Hi guys ..looking to buy a laptop in gulf for self. Unable to decide config.budget up to 25k
Heard i5 new gen are better then older i5 ? My usage is mixed not much into games but these days most content is turning HD..
what's all this fuzz about SSD ?
is it only for faster boot ? should I specifically look for SSD onces ?
Please help

since I am on a low budget ultra book is difficult to fit.
Someone please tell me about ssd in laptops.do newer models use SSD to boot or something ?

newer or more expensive laptops i.e 35k+ ... have a cached ssd partition on which the os could be installed for faster boot times .. they are usually small in size so will just be enough to accomodate the os n very few basic apps.
The i5 is pretty much a better and faster processor ... though i dont think you will be able to find one in 20-30k range...in that price .. you should consider goin for a PDC or an i3 ...

Hunt is still on. Looking for best configuration for around 30k. Average usage not much into gaming but these days hd movies require good gpu. looking for light one thought will be used mostly at home. any i5 ultra book likely ti fit ?
Please suggest models. Thanks.

You could check out the Lenovo s300/s400 series laptop. There is a couple of model with graphics card, not sure which.

I got myself a s300 and works well for basic surfing, movies and some amount of music. Nothing fancy, pentium dual core b987 with 2gb ram and running win 8. Works well for me, but might not exactly be to your taste.

SSD at that budget wont be possible. Only once you start looking above 35k will they start coming in and plus do you need that speed boost for basic movie playing stuff ? Do note that all ultrabook or near enough ultrabook will be using hte U series processor which are anyway slower but runs a lot cooler.

Thanks for replying. will try to hunt similar one here dual core and i3 performance even 3rd gen is same ?
i5 I think would just fit in my budget.
please suggest.

well, ultrabook with i5 will be difficult. i3 should be doable. My dual core s300 cost around 23.5k. Performance of i3 > PDC obviously. But it works for me.

pdc b960 which is most commonly available in laptops now has minimum performance difference over an i3 2nd gen 2328 which is the i3 counterpart commonly available ... pdc doesnt supports hyperthreading and virtualization whereas i3 does ...
i3 3rd gen has a large amount of performance difference when compared to the pdc on benchmark scores ...

if you want an ssd .. you could get a laptop with pdc in about 25k ... spend 3k more and get a 60gb ssd .. and use the 500gb one which came with the laptop in an enclosure as an external storage solution...

Exactly. Though please note that as the s300/s400 are powered almost always by a mobile processor and not the desktop equivalent.
PDC I am talking about is B987 (mobile series)which are far slower than B960.

Wud really appreciate if few models recommended. Facing lot of difficulty since only source to research is my small tipo phone. Looking to buy i5 3rd gen if possible ultrabook or a normal is also fine with good battery backup. I saw one acer today V3 571G. approx 30k
but looking for other brands.

ultrabook book seems out of budget closest one is 36k i5 with 14" screen.
closest onces are these
Acer
Hpg6 2320
Samsung np350 a02ae

Hp Up envy 4-1090ser
Toshiba c850b525/ 516

Toshiba sc850b763blk
here in middle east not many options to choose from in my budget. Have narrow listed last model Toshiba c850 763 due to good config even though exceeding my budget of 30k by 3k. please advise

check the built quality....that shoould be the key for u to decide on one if the specs are fine...also customer support and if you have service centers nearby

Finally got a Toshiba c850 763 satellite..for 33k approx. didn't have much option due to low budget.
this is good enough 6 gb ram,640 HDD, 1 gb AMD Radeon graphic,
i5 3230. don't like the touch pad I am used to those smooth onces this model has rough pad. not very responsive also gets stuck in center sometimes. Any idea why this could be happening ?

It used to happen on my Sony Vaio too, which has a rough touch pad. I kind of like the rough touch pad.
After sometime, i switched to usb mouse, as i find touch pad restrictive. Plus if you are into casual gaming, then touchpad wont suffice. You cant play games on Touchpad. Get a mouse.
