Laptops New Laptop

My parents are buying a new laptop (my mom).

Basically... what is needed a laptop:

1. Under 2.5 kgs
2. For 1 Lakh or less
3. Windows Vista with Aero
4. Has to be light and portable

Any recommendations?

XPS 1210

though if it's for your mom, I'd suggest a Dell 640m

This is because of the fact that the 1280X800 resolution on a 12.1" (though perfect for me, or I geuss you too) would be a little difficult to read for someone with hypermetropia, which usually sets in for most middle-aged people

the 640m configured with a decent CD/C2D chip and 1 Gig of RAM would be in the vicinity of 45K and at around 2.5 kg manages to stay fairly light and portable...

LOL...what do you mean more powerful?

Price is not necessarily a measure of performance :P

the 99K machine from Sony you are talking about is the base Sony Vaio SZ with a C2D T5600, Go7400 and a 5400 rpm drive...right?

For 99K, you can customize the XPS 1210 blisteringly more powerful than that with say a C2D T7200, 2 Gig of RAM and a 7200 rpm drive

Sony is marginally overpriced elsewhere (acceptable) and horrendously overpriced in India (not acceptable)!

Hmmm i saw a compaq somewhere for 67k that had a core duo and discrete graphics. . I guess it was b1900 series. . It was piano black trim and looked seriously cool. . .
also if you are after sony then they have a variation of vgn 13 at 70 k with a 13.3 inch screen,5500 c2d and go 7400 (not sure abt this). .
regards. . Aka.

Toshiba 2114D, C2D 2Ghz, 15.4" CSV, Ati X1600, blah blah blah, 3yr int warranty, around 82k

or 2014D, C2D 1.8Ghz, 15.4", Ati X1600, blah blah blah, 1yr local warranty, around 65k

unless your mom is gonna play farcry and crysis, do you really need such a high-powered machine?

Gem of a quote,,,,,
The light weight models are all <13" screen which is a little pain to work for long hours, don't listen to some people who really are crazy abt dell 1210. I have seen, used & configured them & know everything abt them.

Get something 15.4", around 2.6 kg for Sony VGN series for around 53K. Though i will need to spend on upgrading RAM to 1gb or 2gb for full vista feature-ism.

it will be enough, though the debate here is endless.

I suggest the Sony C series, between 60-70k depending on features, 13.3 inch, only 2.3kg. Also try to get the HP DV2000T, it has a 7200 Nvidia integrated video card and will run vista with Aero. Should be around 60k, 14 inch Core Duo, only weak in RAM, upgrade to 1 or 2gb.

A Sony Vaio or HP Pavilion Notebook for 1 lakh or under and should have Windows Vista and atleast 2 gb of RAM and should have a good battery life. Need suggestions by today..

Thanks
