CPU/Mobo New Mobo for Intel platform suggestions?

I'll be selling off my excellent P5KDlx, and its time to go with another board. Got bored of it, and didn't like the overclocking potential of this board two reasons for selling.

I'm not against another P35 board, or any other chipset, but i'm a little confused and out of the market for awhile, so no idea of the latest stuff.

Here are my requirements:

1. Future proofing - quite obviously, this'll be my last upgrade before tying the knot. It better last for at least 18 months, the board not the knot silly :P
2. Proccy will be my Q6600 now and a Q9450 when its out. I'll be on 4 GB of DDR2, so please no DDR3 boards
3. Overclocking is for benchies only, else I run on stock, don't want the best overclocking board around, but it should be able to do so occasionally.
4. Going NVIDIA again with the GPU, and my 8800GTX will be sold in lieu of a 9800GTX when its out. SLI is a 10% possibility, but not likely. Won't go ATi, no crossfire support needed.
5. Need an E-SATA port, as I have a 750GB HDD used for backup, I cannot afford to waste time on USB transfers
6. Board should be well cooled, heatpipes preferably, I won't be spending on any add-on cooling stuff, except my CPU and GPU coolers.
7. Solid state caps please
8. Very important - should have a PCI slot right at the bottom of the board. Using an EMU 1212 soundcard soon, want to minimise EMI, also the card has another daughter card so it takes up 2 slot places, but only 1 PCI slot
9. Not very important, but I do like a good looking board, a little copper here and there wouldn't hurt

Based on my requirements suggest a board.
I've put up a poll for the chipset. If you vote there, could you suggest a couple of boards based on that vote in a reply while keeping in mind my rather specific requirements?

Max budget - 12.5K. If there's anything good for more, please list it here.

you have a great PC so just wait for Nehalem (Releasing Q4 2008) which won't use Socket LGA775 :)

if you cannot wait then buy X48/790i in March 2008

Anyways..

As of now, with tat budget get an aBit IX38 Quad-GT...

It retails fer more o less the same price and is a gr8 o]erclocker..

X48 would be def on the higher side which'd overshoot ur current budget...
 
the abit IX38 QuadGTseems to be ur best bet

45 nm CPU ready,ddr 2 1066/800 support,2 x eSATA, solid state capacitors and the CrossFire wont hurt ...all this at 12k leaves u with 500 bucks...maybe with that u`ll be able to get some extra beer for the bachelor party!!!!:bleh:
 
err what is LGA 771 then ?? its different from LGA 775 ?..

and which processors will fit in LGA 771 ?

LGA771 is for higher end xeons ( Entry level xeons meant for SOHO / SB are LGA775 ).

I would say stick with the board, P5K Dlx is a very known board for great OC potential and high FSB's. Abit IX38 Quad-GT as already suggested is also a good board. Otherwise look for Foxconn Mars, its a P35 board and looks great with its copper blocks on all the chipsets and active cooling on NB.

Do remember for future proofing you will have to wait since as of now all these X38/X48 are not bringing anything new to the table other than DDR3 support which i think is a utter waste when compared to high end DDR2 sticks.

That's good advice. Now tell me, will the P35 support the 1600 MHz FSB standard? I'm a little confused, will the quad core penryn's support 1600 MHz or 1333 MHz?
@ I like the Mars too, nice look, 2 free PCI slots at the bottom, and SATA ports well away from my 8800gtx. The Abit IP-35 pro seems like a good option too, with the same benefits, only not as flashy looking ;)

Yep, fast DDR2 is good for me till late 2009 at least ;)

^^Sure Nehalem is a possibility but I'd probably wait for at least 6 months, a new architecture requires time to mature.

Prices of both these boards (Mars, IP-35 Pro) in India?
 
Mars is not available here.

IP-35 Pro = Rs.9.5k

And Nehalem will force those who wants to choose it as a processor to switch to DDR3. keep this in mind. If you upgrade now, Core2 will be your last choice from Intel's stable.

Thanks for that. Yep I know about Nehalem, and also bear in mind that 1800 MHz DDR3 will be cheaper by then, and faster and I'll go for a 4G of that ;). I may just crap the Penryn plan if the quad's don't give me more than 20% of a performance hike than my Q6600 at the same price, and go DDR3 and Nehalem when its out. Thankfully Wolfdale's out for me, could never go dual after a quad :P

Price of the IP35-pro seems good. If I decide on the Mars, I'll get it from Newegg, it seems to be stupendously cheap there...
