Hi,

I am located in mumbai and am looking to upgrade to a new Conroe based system. I have a 28 k budget for the cpu (whole box).

My current config is
P4 2.4Ghz.
Via chipset mobo
256mb ddr 400 Mhz.
Nvidia mx4000 GPU (AGP/6mts old)
Samsung HDD 40+80gb pata
Sony DVD Writer
Pinnacle TV tuner card

I intend to retain the Agp card, HDD, Dvd writer and TV tuner card.

So basically I need a processor, mobo and cabinet and Ram. I don’t mind compromising on the agp card if I get good onboard graphics. As I intend to wait for the dx10 cards. Please recommend a system I can get by Saturday at lamington road. I am looking forward to by the Conroe 6300

Thanks

E6300 + P5LD2-VM/MSI 965x = Rs.16000
1GB DDR2-533 RAM = Rs.4100
Cheapo PCI-e Card (like a 7300GT) to hold you off till DX10. Rs.4000

:) No these are the rates menioned in a site
.:: Yantra Online ::.
There should also be authorised dealers in Mumbai.
This site also mentions ddr2 800Mhz for 7.8k..
U check it out...
Since u are going for c2d it makes sense to go for the highest performing mem u can afford.
I am talking about the value series. The xms2 will cost more.. :)

Ok Guys,

here is what I have finalised so far...
Procc 6300 - 11K
mobo ? (I need onboard graphics + support for 800mhz ram ddr2)
ram 1 gb ddr2 667/3 Mhz - 5k
Cabinet+smps 2.5k

total = 18.5 k

1 day to go guys pls help

you could go for the asrock 775twins hdtv which has onboard video. why do you need 800 mhz ram? that would mean1600 fsb for an intel proc?

intel uses quad pumped ram so even 533 mhz ram will give you (266X2)X2 =1066mhz fsb.

correct me if i am wrong about his fsb buisness guys.

Is it asrock 775twins hdtv or asrock 775twins hdtv R 2.0

asrock 775twins hdtv doesnt seem to support conroe acc to website info

Yes...mate there is a difference in using DDR2-533 and DDR2-800, by a big margin. I guess u think that DDR2-533 would perform better than DDR-400, but thats not the case. Since DDR2 has more latency compared to DDR, DDR-266 would perform close to DDR2-533. Just the megahertz doesnt matter.

Also the FSB and the mem-clock seem to be 2 different things. You can run both in synchronous as well as asynchronous mode. i.e. u can have the mem run at 800 while CPU at 1066... I guess with E6300 conroe, it wouldnt matter much to have any kinda RAM..... but with E6600 and higher, I guess DDR2 800 should b the norm !!

Asrock 775-Dual VSTA: Does DDR2 matter

This seems a nice article to the topic we were talking.. The articles takes a board for conroe as example that can take both DDR & DDR2 RAM and compares the performance. The board is an interesting one, since it also has AGP 8x with PCI-Express...So ppl with high performance AGP cards dont need to throw those away when upgrading to Conroe!!

I personally wouldn't recommend this board unless you're on a very tight budget. It has only single-channel memory access available, which results in a huge performance hit.

Its always best to run your FSB:RAM at a 1:1 ratio, i.e. for the 1066Mhz FSB, would be advisable running it at 533Mhz. There's no point running it higher since the bus would be saturated anyway - running it asynchronously at higher speeds almost always results in a performance hit.

However having the extra headroom available on your RAM is extremely useful in case you're overclocking (so that you can maintain the 1:1 ratio between your FSB and RAM)

The Anandtech article shows pretty good results for this particular Asrock board, so i'm assuming it does have dual channel memory access. Anyone have any clue if this board is available instead of the HDTV Twins model?

Hey Guys,

Got a conroe 6300 + Asus P5LD2-VM +1gb trancend 533 mhz ddr2 ram on saturday for 20K. Also got a zebraonica antibiotic with 400 watts smps for 2600 Rs.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Congrats..

I say you should get a better PSU.

The Zebby 400W, is not enough IMHO.

What graphics card did you buy?
