sorry for hijacking the thread......
@darkangel, a friend of mine has similar budget
the above rig looks nice
he will be doing some medium size database work (oracle i think)
do you think the cpu-ram combo would be enough?

Not much of an idea abt the intended usage. Better put up a separate thread with this usage. Others members with similar usage would help u out.

Intel E5200 has 2.5Ghz compared to AThlon which has 2.9ghz much better for price to performance, AMD always beats Intel at low budget range

DA surely meant X2 245.
e5200 is not available anymore afaik, e5400 is approx 3000/-, but there is no budget intel mobo/chipset equi to 740G.
If you feel lucky, get a Sempron 140, most unlock to a dual - and the DA config will come to approx 20K.

If you believe benchmarks, Intel Pentium E5300 - 2.60GHz - 2MB L2 is as good as AMD Athlon II X2 255 - 3.1GHz - 2MB L2

Only you can decide that. See the benchmarks, Intel does better on some, AMD on others.

All things being equal, I would choose AMD because the 740G chipset is better. DA could give a better answer.
