New PMP within 15k

I needed to buy a new PMP.
Have been using my 5800 for all my needs for the past 1.5 years.

I have zeroed on the Cowon J3 32 GB version. It can play almost all video formats and it can also play Flac.

Is there any other option in this price range?
 
Get the 8gb one at lower price and add the Micro SD cards... they range from 500/- for 8gb. Don't waste the money :)
 
Ipod Touch doesnt seem to have the expandable slot. The resolution is pretty good though. I checked out the Apple Store and the price is pretty high. I am sure the price would be low at Alfa, mumbai. But does it doesnt play all video formats thats supported by J3.
 
Install VLC player on iPod Touch.. am using the iPod Touch 4G for video, gaming and browsing, and for audio, Cowon D2+ with FiiO E5

I would be mainly using it for music and videos. Others things would be nice to have rather than need to have.

Does it have expansion slot?

Any idea when is the Cowon D3 going to be available?

Just my 2c on J3 vs iPod Touch 4G:

  • The downside to owning iPod Touch will be tying yourself to iTunes, No expansion slot, no direct FLAC support. The upside will be superior UI experience, apps and other non-audio uses.
  • Cowon J3 has expansion slot, UI can be customized using UCI, supports a large number of audio formats, has a supposedly longer battery life, has BBE effects in built + no need to install anything on the PC. Parametric EQ used to be an advantage of the Cowons, but if you buy the $3 eQu app for iPod, that advantage vanishes easily. Next comes the question of 'better SQ' with the Cowons. I only have a 3G touch and I prefer my Cowon S9 over it. But thinking about it, you are not buying a player to review and compare the subjective SQ, but to listen to music for which iPod Touch is more than sufficient.
  • According to opinions I read, Cowon D3 is not that good and had many issues to be ironed out. Besides, I'd take 60 hrs (could be 30-40 in normal use) of J3 over 21 hrs for audio in D3 any day.

Buy an Archos only if you want to watch your videos without converting them (supports mkv upto 720p :-)),

Its an excellent video player, plus with the battery or hdmi dock you can output the video to your big screen.

The cons are resistive screen, a not so smooth UI and not all android apps can be installed on it.

Also its still on android 1.6 and upgarde to Froyo looks unlikely
 
Was still a bit confused. I am leaning more towards iPod Touch.

But to keep my options open, can you guys tell me how is the Cowon X7?

Got my touch today.

Really screwed up with the Screen Guard. Does anyone know how to stick these things.

may need to get a new screen guard.

yet to try the touch though. :P
