Forum Feedback New posts count..Why this happening?

new post count is different in the top info section and in the actual results

i also noted the problem same time with blue and as it was under investigation i waited but the problem still persists.

We are working on it.

If thread A has 10 replies in it then it will show that there are 10 new posts meaning that there are 10 new replies.

and my wishes are with te team for quick solution.

what i wanted to point our was the thread count (when i logged in it showed 29 new threads and when i tried to view it it showed me only 25)

I see,i thought you were speaking about replies.

What can i say,SuperNova has a long list of new features/fixs/improvements which he is working on day in day out,QuickFire is very busy with his exmans,all i can ask from all of you is bear with us a bit more & they will all be fixed.

Keep that feedback coming & thanks to all of you.
 
By New Posts we mean total number of new posts since your last visit.
The New threads, includes the number of threads in which these posts have been made in.

hi xto,

what i want to point out is when i log in to the forums myhomepage notifies me the new threads as 29 as in first image.

but when i open the new posts link and i find in top it mentiones displaying 1-25 of the 25 threads as in second image.

why this is happening?

today morning it went like 76 mentioned and 70 opened.

as team is looking in to the matter i am with you guys and wishes for the solution. :)

sorry didn't reply earlier.. was busy with some new scripting i am doing for website,

The difference is coming due to the different timeouts that the new posts are checking in those two instances. It all depends on from when it calculates the post times once you log out.
I will put them both to same soon. As soon as i finish the present task. It requires a query edit in DB.

ok a bit of an update...
the prob is that right now this is showing posts made in all sections. Unfortunately that includes post in the staff and trash sections. Will exclude the forums and fix this. However this requires a triple level of database query which i will first test locally and fix.

showing posts mean counting posts.. but its showing you posts in those section that you can view.. so the difference

is it showing correct results now?

(and it won't work for staff yet.. fixing that) For others it may or it may not :P got some heavy duty db querying done... but as with all heavy duty coding, bugs are there always :) )
 
i dono..
when clicked on new posts, 63 coming for me, which is shown as new threads in the top profile info...there, the new posts showing is 265
is it wat u needed..
 
its actually new thread only :D
that's a typo in the hack ... not by me btw thats a vbulletin staff typo. Anyway the threads is fixed. I guess i will fix this post issue also. Hang around :P

anyway the issue is coming up cos of different methods of getting the posts in the two ways. one is db query, another uses a more elaborate search criteria.
 
i dont mind them at all..clickin on new posts whenever free.. :) but just dissapointed when i found no threads to spam..so posted as complaint :P
if it is heavy on queries and db hacks etc isnt it better to leave it as such..
 
ok guys here is i hope a final update(still have to fix for the staff but its fixed for the rest)

1) New threads means threads in which there have been new posts. It does not mean "new" in the sense that you might believe based on conventional wisdom

2) New posts ofcourse means new posts that have been made in all those threads since last visit.

I hope this helps.

and earlier it was faulty cos the new posts and threads was coming from all sections. So that was a genuine bug in the code which i have fixed now.

fixed for most staff also.. maybe 1-2 guys may have some issues. with threads in staff section. So plz see that individually.

and btw if you were getting some errors on forums :P it was due the the modding i was doing to fix this. Sorry for that.
 
by new threads i meant there were new posts / new replies at some threads and also newly created threads so i was on right track.

and yes it is fixed for me. shows 63 new threads and 263 new posts and while opening the link it shows all the 63 threads.
