I read this on another forum and wanted to confirm with someone who had bought a new prepaid mobile connection recently. I read that from now on the prepaid connections won't be pre activated, as in one cannot just get a sim and start using. Rather the service provider will first verify the details and then only activate the sim card ?
As of now I guess the connection was activated before the details are actually verified.

This concerns me as I need to get a new mobile connection after 2 weeks but if it going to take more than a week to get it activated then I can tell my dad to take a connection on his name and I expect that it will be activated by the time I arrive.

I got an Airtel prepaid connection couple of months back, it was activated on the same day within 3-4 hours of getting it. And within 2 weeks got a call from their cc who just asked me to verify the details I have filled in the original form.

@raksrules : Yes, it will take 2-3 days for activation, the new norms were effective from Nov 9th -- DoT Tightens Norms : No Mobile Connection Without Physical Verification

The retailer must first enter all your details on the system, and you will receive a tele verification call only after that the connection will be active.

I recently got a Reliance GSM SIM on a Saturday, my details were updated in their system only on Monday after noon, and I had to call a toll free number to confirm my details after which the number was activated.

This is true. Got an aircel 3g sim yesterday and the salesgirl said that it can take 2 to 7 days for the sim to start working.

Yes, after the new rules have come into place, activation is taking 3 to 7 days, depending on when one applies for the connection.
