Need some suggestions here with respect to my HTPC rig which has the following specs -

C2D E6300

2GB RAM

ATI HD3850

4 HDDs

VIP Gold 500W PSU (Bought in 2007)

CM Elite 360 cabinet

Now, the processor and the graphics card is sufficient to power my HTPC to play even 1080p rips but it is extremely messy in there since the PSU doesn't have sleeved cables. There are wires everywhere and it is extremely difficult to clean.

I want to go in for a basic PSU that can power the components mentioned above and has sleeved cables (an absolute must). I don't plan to upgrade my GPU at all. If anything, I might go in for a new proccy+motherboard+RAM combo (that too like an i3), but that's about it.

Please suggest a suitable PSU for the same! My budget is "as low as possible". :)

Take a look at the Gigabyte Superb 460 and the FSP Saga series as well. Since you are on a tight budget.

Many Lammy shops have V1 in stock too and they sell it to customers who dont know the difference between v1 and v2 versions of CX430... Clearing stocks is what they look for, unless we specify and press on V2 they wont give it.

AFAIK only V2 is sold in market. I havent come across V1

@Gannu : He needs PSU with sleeved cables :)

The V2 has 3 years warranty... The one which says 2 years warranty isnt a V2 Builder Series

You can get from itwares/prime as you seem to be from pune... I am not sure what they charge for sending it to pune. (I am not able to open the links you have shown, so cant check which seller it is)

And as your system is not that power hungry, both the PSUs will be silent.. You will hear (extremely) slight buzzing from CX430 V2 if there is pin drop silence in your room.

^ I am trying to procure it locally which is going to be very difficult since Pune dealers are rarely aware of these power supplies, let alone keeping them in stock. Getting from Mumbai will mean shipping plus octroi :(

Oh ya.. That Octroi thingy cant be avoided unless you personally visit Mumbai and take the PSU with you...

Affirmative on the silence part using it in my HTPC and totally happy with it . Yes it is 3 years warranty. I would say go for corsair becuase of the RMA process. IIRC some one had recently posted their agony in getting the RMA done for their seasonic PSU.

Check if any TE folks who visit Mumbai for weekend.

@ Sei PM

Corsair CX430W V2 = Rs.2500 including shipping charges

Seasonic S12II 430W = Rs.2600 including shipping charges

Note: Octroi Charges will be paid by customer, if applicable in thier area.

Road permit will be required, if applicable in their area.

@sei: Recently built a friend's box with the CX430, nothing to complain about for the htpc duties. And on monday rebuilt my htpc using the Seasonic. You can listen to both at my place.

The seasonic is really super silent. I am using for my "music only" headless PC with some "decent enough" gear and I believe it's worth the 2600 spent.

Hey Sarang! Long time :)

Can you tell me where you sourced the Seasonic from for Rs 2600? I got a quote for Rs 2850 for the Corsair CX430W from the dealer who supplies stuff to our office. That was the lowest he could go to. Around 200 bux more expensive compared to PrimeABGB shipping it here.

I'm more or less set on the Corsair from the local dealer for now because I am in a bit of a hurry. Shipping from Mumbai would stretch into the next week.

What to do? :S

I got it off ebay thanks to coupons. Get the CX not too much of a difference anyway.
