@naveen58

What difference do you see between the

AMD PII X2 550BE + Biostar/Gigagyte 785 VS. Intel Core2Duo E7500 + Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L

To the AMD path looks a tad more flexible in the sense if there is a need to upgrade in the proc in the future.

AMD PhenomII 550BE+Biostar 790GXBE - 9.5-10k
If you can get a good batch of the AMD proccy like the 0922APMW/0925 batch then this mobo can unlock the other two cores and you can get a quad-core running at 3.1GHz :)

he's right..

But you have to be that lucky guy to get the processor of that batch.

go for intel as you have more overclocking headroom on air as well as on water.

^if you'll not be overclocking then it doesn't makes any sense to go for either C2D or Phenom II X2.

if your parents will be using this system then get a Dual Core E5300 instead of C2D & save 2.3k on Proccy as they don't use the systems as we do!!

absolutely.. buy a c2d or PII only if ull be using the rig..
if ur parents will be using buy a E5300 as suggested by naveen58..
its good for browsing and office work and moreover less power consumption..:D
BTW,,even if u dont unlock the cores on X2 550 it still beats the E7500:)

here's my another config specially made keeping in mind your parents :D

Proccy- Intel Dual Core E5300 -3.3k

M/B- Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L -2.4k

Ram- Corsair CM2X2048-6400 2GB -2.2k

GPU-Sapphire HD 4670 512MB DDR-III [HDMI] -4.3k

HDD- WDC 500GB SATA 3.5" -2.5k

Cabinet-CM Elite 334-2.1k

PSU- Corsair CMPSU-400CX -3k

Optical Drive- any DVDRW- 1.1k

Speakers - Altec Lansing BXR1221 -1.1k

Total 18.7k

it's the Best Config IMO for your parents.

Proccy- AMD AthlonII 240 - 3.1k
M/B- Biostar 785GE - 3.4k (good IGP so can save on the discrete GPU if only intented for light gaming)
Ram- Transcend 2GB 800MHz DDRII - 1.6-1.7k (DDRII RAM rates have gone up lately and you wont be able to find a 2GB stick for less than this price)
HDD- WD 500GB SATA 3.5" -2.5k
Cabinet-Zebby Bijili with SMPS - 1.7k
Optical Drive- any DVDRW- 1.1k
Speakers - Altec Lansing BXR1221 -1.1k
Total 14-15k.:eek:hyeah:
Dont spend more on the PC just because your budget allows you to do so. Save the rest of the amount and invest on something else or keep it in reserve for future upgrades or a nice LCD when you feel like buying one.:)

I like this rig. I do not need the speakers so i can use that to buy a CM cabby avoid the zebby.
Just one observation. Is biostar really that good that most people here recommend it?

Biostar is not great but just VFM. It comes with a 3-year warranty i guess. If you dont wanna compromise on quality go for gigabyte or Asus boards. But a similar board will cost you 1k more. If you want a CM cabby like the Elite 310@1.5k and the zebronics pro 350w@1.5k. As you are are inclined on a better PSU i recommend take a look on this config too.
E5300(3.3k)+Gigabyte EG31S2L(2.35k)+Sapphire ATI HD4350(1.95k)-7.6k
AMD AthlonII 240(3.1k)+Asus/Gigabyte 780G mobo(4-4.5k)-7.2-7.6k.
The intel combo can offer you a discrete GPU which more than twice as powerful as the IGP.
So E5300+Gigabyte EG31S2L+ATI HD4350+Transcend 2GB DDRII+WD500GB+CM Elite310+Zebby Pro 350w+Any DVD R/W-16k. This will be more powerful than the AMD + IGP. :eek:hyeah:
