New safer fire proof Li-Ion batteries in the near future

So, here’s something cool (and super safe!) from South Korea. Researchers at DGIST have created a lithium-ion battery with a triple-layer solid polymer electrolyte that can literally extinguish itself if it catches fire. Yep, you read that right! Plus, it’s explosion-resistant and lasts longer than regular Li-ion batteries.

The issue with normal Li-ion batteries? While great for energy storage (read, smartphones and EVs), the liquid electrolytes inside them can catch fire and even explode as we have seen so many times in the news, and hopefully not in person.

battery2.webpThis new solid-state innovation uses a zeolite middle layer for strength, softer layers for better electrode contact, and some fancy compounds to stop dendrites (those pesky tree-like structures that ruin batteries). Bonus: it still performs at nearly 88% after 1,000 charge cycles.

This could mean safer gadgets, more reliable EVs, and even better energy storage for renewable power.

Would you pick a phone or EV with these safer batteries if it meant paying a bit more? Or is price and performance still king? Let’s hear your thoughts!

Wow!!.
This plus that Chinese nuke battery capable of lasting more than 30-50 years is good news.
But not sure how soon will we see that technology in our hands actually.

From research to real use it can takes decades.

Hamare bache ke phone mein hoga yeh sab.

I take most battery tech with a pinch of salt. They have good specs on paper or in lab but hard to make in a factory. I'll wait for something that can be mass produced at cheap cost since that will be the tech that ultimately makes it out of the lab and into factories and to the consumers.

I think all this is fast forwarded by lab people and shown to world mostly for patent filing only.

Atleast thankfully Apple and all are not claiming this.
Nahi toh future mein Patent file karke they would have only made this tech for Apple users only.

All this is cool but we have to wait to see if this even becomes mainstream. We have all seen promising tech that has never seen light of the day or become mainstream.
