Hello

I need a new 2.1 speakers and a sound card for 5k. Have heard a lot about Altec Lansing VS4121 ... so should I go for these, also I have no idea in Sound cards but it should atleast be better than my onboard Realtek azalia :ashamed: .

TIA :)

The cheapest (decent) Creative card -Audigy Value will set u back by about 1.7k. That leaves you with 3300 and imo there are few spkrs at that price point which will actually make a difference if connected to the azalia or the audigy value. I'll recommend you heed greenies advice and settle for the MX5021 and use foobar+kernel streaming / asio4all on the azalia for now.

Later when you have the moolah can upgrade to a "real" sound card.

Don't take my word as last and let your ears decide things for you.

then I'd recommend you save up a little bit more :)

5k will get you a VS4121 and an audigy value , but the MX5021, even when plugged into an onboard will sound a lot better :)

can I interest you in a li'l DIY 4.1 :P

Just plug your SBS into the rear channel output :ohyeah:

and read this too (shameless plug:ashamed:)
