CNet reports that a new distance record for wi-fi technology has been set in Venezuela, of an astounding 382km!
Actually most Wi-Fi signals only go only a few meters before petering out. Conventional Wi-Fi transmitters, however, send signals in all directions. By directing the signal to a specific point, range can be increased. And Intel has created a way to electrically steer the wifi signals.

If this develops to a greater extent, the day wont be far when we have internet connectivity on the go while travelling just anywhere, that too at the speed better than current bb speeds. I'll have a connection registered at bangalore for my house which is almost 290kms away...:P
