Newbie question : how do I get the fps for any game ?

Hi,
Please let me know how does one get the fps for a game. Right now I have Counter-Strike CZ. Just want to know how my 6 year old PC ( Duron 800 + GeForce4 MX440 64MB + 384MB PC133 ) fares. C-S CZ is quite 'playable', just want to know the fps.

In CS, you can type "cl_showfps 1" in the console.

Or even "net_graph 3" and youll get the fps.

FYI : C-S CZ ( using "cl_showfps 1" ) reports fps between 30 to 60. The counter changes too rapidly to get a correct ( or average ) figure. Not bad for a <S>antique</S> ... uuuhhhh ... classic PC, what ?

Strangely when I'm killed, and watching via "free chase cam", the fps actually seems to go up between 50 to 70+ ! Didn't know graphics cards could sense whether I'm alive or not ;-) .

Lol, its not that. Theres just lesser load on the Graphics card as the Models of the guns and the Hud doesnt have to be rendered.
