Hi everyone

This is my first post on this forum

I bought the following inorder to assemble a home pc myself(i had never assembled a new pc before but had ripped apart my old pc upto the processor)

Motherboard- Intel DH67BL

Processor- Intel Core i3 2100 3.1GHz

RAM- Corsair DDR3 4GBx1

Cabinet- some bulzer brand with bulzer SMPS 450W

Monitor- Samsung SA100

I have completed assembling according to the details provided in the intel motherboard box and processor box

but upon trying to start it up it is not booting up...nothing comes on the monitor....

the monitor worked when i connected it to my laptop...so there's no problem with it...

when i switch on the power and press the power button, the power LED lights up, fan rotates, Num lock LED responds, system resets upon pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL...when i remove the RAM and turn it on i hear error beeps from the mother board...i put the ram in each of the slots but it didnt work

One thing im worried about is the VGA-DVI converter ive connected between the monitor and CPU...my doubt is if it works or not...but i tested using a multimeter in continuity mode by checking across analog pins on the DVI side and on the VGA side...and it gave a positive result

can someone please help me out about where the problem would be?

Actually the samething happened to me when i purchased a pc and assembled it 3 years back. Later i found out the shop keeper gave wrong connections. so please check again.

First check the PSU. But I dont think that is the culprit. I believe that this board has no support for VGA connections using a DVI VGA adapter. Remove that and try again.

When I assembled my first PC I had faced a similar problem as well. The monitor stayed in the sleep mode. When I removed and reinstalled the video card, it worked fine. So the problem was either with the graphics card not being placed properly or with the dvi to vga converter. I'd suspect the latter as the graphics card's fans were spinning. But could be a different issue in your case though.

I think its problem of DVI connector, make sure it is NOT a DVI-D to VGA (here D stands for Digital and VGA need analog signal so this will give you Power Saving screen i.e no signal ). Check this website ( All About DVI ) to make make sure which type of DVI port is present on you DVI to VGA convertor, IMO anything other than DVI-D and DVI-D Dual link should work for DVI to VGA. I am using DVI-I Dual Link to VGA converter for my Projector which has only VGA port, this works fine for me.

if it was a issue with the VGA/DVI atleast the computer would boot up with beep beep sound ?? here the computer doesn't boot up at all... just spinning fans

he DVI connector on the motherboard is specified to be a DVI-I connector....which i learnt from the net that it works for both analog and digital data...

I have purchased this kind of a connector: http://www.tvcables.co.uk/images//items/vga-to-dvi.jpg and connected it to the motherboard

The monitor has a VGA port so i used a VGA male to male cable(which was included in the package)

and one peculiar doubt i've got is....the CTRL+ALT+DEL combination works....where does the processing of those keystrokes take place? On the motherboard itself or on the processor?

one thing im afraid of is if i've accidentally damaged any one of them(but im pretty sure i was very soft compared to how mechanics in smaller computer shops handle hardware)...is there any way to check each one of them?? Like i've been thinking...if the CTRL+ALT+DEL sequence is processed on the CPU, both the motherboard and CPU are alright..and if it is processed on the motherboard, the processor might have been damaged...

and yes there is no beep beep sound upon bootup!

as of now i think i'll have to get the SMPS checked

Note that ravikanth has mentioned that the computer is booting, i.e after he presses CTRL+ALT+DEL the PC restarts, also when he removes the ram he can hear the long beep of ram not present, this clearly means there is no problem with the PSU (ram dosen't need much of power ), and computer is booting, only he is not getting an analog signal to his monitor which can not support a DVI digital signal.

I guess then the OP needs to connect a different display, and hook it up native without a converter. And work backwards from there, isolating one part at a time.

I can drop by and help you out if you are in banaglore.
Atleast these components are working right.
SMPS check-this smps should power the i3...but not recommended.
monitor check
motherboard is okay
1.problem could be Ram, shorting or overheating if the system is shutting down even before bootup.
remove all the components.
2.just test RAM(1stick)+Processor+Mobo+SMPS connected to a display via VGA/DVI cable. HDMI can be fickle with cheap cables.
3.Try out with a GPu like 8400gs etc.

I took the CPU to that dealer and i found that the DVI to VGA connector has a problem...so i got it exchanged...it worked over there with their old crt monitor...and when i brought it and connected at my home to the new monitor it doesnt work...i remember he also had to press it a lot but i tried for half an hour to adjust it but i couldnt make it...The monitor works normally when connected to my old cpu

Just checked up on the net, seems this mobo has support for analog displays too. But AFAIK 2 months ago when i checked it said DVI I connector but DVI D o/p only

only choice you have now is to get a low cost graphics card which has vga and dvi out on it and attach your monitor to that.

Can you post the PIC of that DVI connector ? (the DVI side specially)

Thanks a lot guys

Now the issue is fixed....The connector between the DVI port on the motherboard and the VGA cable was the culprit...It was too loose(i think i need to replace it later with a standard one)...after pressing and adjusting it a lot it seems to work fine now...
