Lol ATi sure has something up its sleeves !
There is no doubt that the nVidia 7800GTX 512MB, which everyone expected would launch 2 days ago as a 7800GTX Ultra, would likely win a head-to-head performance test as single or SLI when compared with the single X1800XT or Crossfire. However, ATI clearly believes the competitor for X1800XT is the $499 7800GTX and not the $700 7800GTX 512MB. ATI was quite clear they will be introducing a "PE version" of X1800XT to compete with 7800GTX 512.
A X1800XT PE with 1Gb of fast clocked gddr3 memory anyone :D

Some good news for crossfire as well
While the exact performance results achieved comparing X1800XT Crossfire with 7800GTX SLI can not yet be published, we can tell you we benchmarked with F.E.A.R., Quake 4, Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory, Doom 3, Far Cry, and 3DMark05 at 1600x1200 resolution with 4X AA and 8X AF enabled. ATI X1800XT Crossfire won every benchmark over nVidia 7800GTX SLI in these tests.

We also ran standard scores (1024x768) for Aquamark 3, 3Dmark03, and 3Dmark05. Once again Crossfire X1800XT outperformed nVidia 7800GTX SLI in every benchmark.

We then ran all the same tests in single video mode, comparing a single X1800XT on the ATI RD480 to a single 7800GTX on the ATI A8N32-SLI. Benchmarks were run under the same conditions as Crossfire/SLI - 1600x1200/4xAA/8xAF in games and "standard" scores in 3Dmarks and Aquamark 3. Once again the ATI X1800XT on the RD580 was the winner in every benchmark. It is clear the new 5.11 drivers do make a difference in Open GL games like Quake 4 and Doom 3. Even more exciting, the RD580/X1800XT Crossfire will be a potent graphics combination.

Lol ATi is back in business it seems.

Cool. But lets see.. their 5 "paper launches" never turn into real product launches... Lets see what happens though.

Just faster Memory wont cut it for the x1800

ATI X1600XT drops to $199, €199

JUST AS we tried to criticise ATI for making mainstream cards more expensive for us, the company decided to drop the prices. ATI still has to ship its RV530 based cards branded as X1600XT and X1600PRO but it already decided to reduce the price. X1600XT was winning against Geforce 6600GT but Nvidia toped its offering with just announced Geforce 6800GS card.

ATI decided to drop its X1600XT prices from $249 to $199 and this again put some additional pressure on 6600 GT cards. We already reported that Nvidia is having shortages of this ultra good selling chip. You can expect to see X1600XT cards clocked at minimally 590 MHz core and 1380 MHz memory around November 30th and we know that many partners are working on their own designs.

X1600PRO dropped down from $199 suggested retail price to $149 and even below, depending on the partner design. Those cards are expected in late November, in just two weeks from now will give Nvidia 6600 to run for its money. Radeon X1600PRO works at 500 MHz core and 780 MHz memory and comes in both 128 and 256 MB configurations.

We learned that some X1600PRO cards will cost less than $130 but we believe that those will be 128 MB configurations but perfectly priced to challenge Geforce 6600 standard cards.

This leaves Geforce 6800GS in $249 league and Nvidia will have to do something about its prices. µ

Go Ati!!!!! :eek:hyeah:

But no one seems to be talking abt the biggest winner in this battle.

AMD.

All new high profile chipset developments have been taking place on AMD mobos. This will definitly help in selling more AMD CPUs.

These launches follow a certain chain......one will launch a fast card the other will then respond with something faster....Same thing with a cheap/budget card....Anyways I think ATI should move on with the 16 pixel pipe thingy....and finally look to beef things up here...

Even the 512 bit ring bus and other tweaks cannot propel is beyond the 512 meg 7800....But I must commend ATI and the architecture of the X1800 that it remains close by throughout the game despite giving up 8 pp's....

Another thing blade......what are the temperature specs of these beauties...I mean the 7800GTX/512 and the X1800XT..?? It would be interesting to note......Also consider that ATI has a big clock bump....is it 625 Mhz core?? The roles here are reversed when u compare the FX and 9800 series....

Lastly regardless of who wins outta these 2.......The actual winners are US....the gamers...agree?

LOL................ the battles go on...............

I think not calling the 7800GTX 512MB "ultra" was a very smart move by NVidia. I think (and believe) that a 7800 Ultra is still in the reckoning and it will be announced the day X1800XT PE is announced. And it will again beat the X1800XT PE.

After that, i dont think neither ATI nor NVidia would stretch it any further. The X2800 and 8800 wars will begin :D (say April - May ?)

as of now:

7800GTX 512MB SLI >> X1800XT CF >> 7800GTX SLI >> 7800GT SLI >> 7800GTX 512 MB >> X1800XT >> 7800GTX 256MB >> X1800XL >> 7800GT

Cheers,

Karan

The 7800gtx runs cooler due to the dual slot cooler but i have been hearing news that the cooler isnt as efficient and dump heat into the case. The X1800XT are on a bit higher side.

Yeah the winner is the consumer but i'd rather see these fights in the mid end and low end where both companies make their max profits and which accounts for most what hardcore "gamers" purchase.

The 7800GTX 512 MB SLI is NOT better than the X1800XT Crossfire.

That is the very first post in this thread :p

The X1800XT CF beats the 7800GTX SLI. That is what is given at AT. They have not yet published the detailed results but it seems that finally ATI is better than nvidi.

Which part of this did you not understand?? :bleh: :p

The X1800XT CF beats the 7800GTX 256 MB SLI, and is beaten by the 7800GTX 512 MB SLI.

Get ur facts clear mate.

Any ideas on how much these poly crunchers are actually gonna cost...

I am referring to the 512 meg 7800GTX from MSI/Asus actually???

So what? i was just correctiong you :|.
7800GT is infact better than the x1800xl :).

None of those two have launched it in india yet.

Looking at XFX pricing i would expect MSI to be slightly more expensive and asus to be a lot more expensive.

XFX is at 50K mark so that gives an idea about pricing. We might see asus at 60K lol.

It could trigger a price fall in the 256 meg version though...later on....I expect the rates to come down a bit after a month and again by april - may....

Also the 7800GT which is also a juicy proposition especially for SLI...will also come down, due to pushing from above...

Well by April - May we expect nVidia's g80's and ati's r580's.

So obviously a 7800's and x1800's price will drop drastically.

Yup i got that msg too. PM me your source. Mine might be the same :p.

Also the g80 is rumoured to come in 1 GB Configs too.

Low end 8000 series nVidia are suppose to be 512 MB and High Ends 1 GB.

Lets wait and watch :).
