NVidia to discontinue the Quadro series

A very reliable source has spilled a few bags of beans lately, this is the first of many reports coming over the course of the next month.
NVidia is to discontinue their Quadro series, and just carry both workstation and gaming cards under the same SKU. The reason behind this all? Simple, they're the same cards anyway, just one put through alot harder stress testing, which costs more money, and ends up with an equal card or lesser card for almost twice the price that becomes a niche product and is almost impossible to sell. Most sites still carry quadros all the way back to the 500 series, merely because no one is willing to pay for them.
This round, the 7800gtx can, in some cases, actually render FASTER than the quadro 4500 anyway!
Over the past few years, less and less manufacturers/partners have wanted to carry these cards as more and more companies began to realize they are the same cards anyway, and all it takes to change a desktop chip to a workstation one is a simple driver and bios change. Besides, why carry multiples of the same card under different skus when it's much easier to sell them all as the same? After all, now only 3 companies make quadros, those companies being PNY, Leadtek, and Apple, with leadtek having just been taking the heatsinks and slapping them on GTX's anyway.
How soon will this occur? From what my source has told me, this gen will be the last one to carry the quadro. "The 4500 should be the last one. NVidia may change their minds on that, but currently it would appear as though this is the last one. As for the driver situation, it would appear there will still be two sets of drivers. One for desktop usage, and one for workstation, but now there won't be a need in owning a $1000+ card to do so. This will make alot of studios happy, as it'll bring down their cost tremendously. It's definitely made our company happy!"
Now, the question is, will ATi follow suit with this? Even though their FireGL series hasn't been anywhere close to as popular as the quadro series, it'd only make sense from a business stand-point to do the same. Who in their right mind would buy these cards when they can get NVidia's unified cards for half the price?
Goodbye Quadro!
