Newspaper Articles/Columns

Any suggestions as to which articles/columns are really worth reading? I make it a point to read all the editorials in the Sunday editions of ToI, HT, DNA. Also, I read Ashish Shakya's column on page 4 of Sunday HT (which they moved from edit page), and in the accompanying Brunch mag, Vir Sanghvi and Download Central column.

These are a must read for me.

It would be great if this thread can be turned into one where members can post must read editorials, articles, cover stories from various publications they regularly read/come across. Could paste the links here or even a snapshot of the piece if it isn't available online (although I am not sure about the legality of the latter option).

IMO you can drop Vir Sanghavi's columns - the revelation that he was a Nira Radia's (remember her?) paid shill lost all credibility for me.

Maybe - but I dont see how his food columns are connected to Radia.[DOUBLEPOST=1383019049][/DOUBLEPOST]
To what end ?

I just read my daily and when that's done i move onto other things.

I just wanted to know if there are any articles that might be missed.[DOUBLEPOST=1383020514][/DOUBLEPOST]
http://caravanmagazine.in/ has some very nice articles. Their style of writing is very engaging. Besides this, I read Economic and Political Weekly. Great magazine but the articles are more academic in nature than general purpose. Just trawl reddit for your area of interest and you will find a lot of interesting stuff to read.

Found an interesting article on Satya Sai Baba - makes me think if all godmen are alike

Your question is overly broad and ignores any interests you may have.

Instead, pick a region then decide on the subject of interest. Spend 6 months on that and you will identify what to read and more importantly what to ignore.

If thats too specialised then complement your daily paper with a periodical that is of a general nature. Try for a month or two and see what's out there. Economist is a good choice.

For general news, prefer wireline services like reuters, AP, AFP, PTI, ANI etc. These are usually relatively more neutral and i find better than local articles. The editorial is the most important article an any paper. I tend to skim the front page and pay more attention to the inside ones. Less hype, more info.

Avoid op-eds unless you know the author specialises in that area.
