Hi

NFS: MW freezes for 10-15 seconds smtimes while playing.
i'm playing in 1024x768 screen res with medium to high setttings.
Is it due to shortage of system memory (RAM)? :S

my PC config is in my siggy
n btw, i'm playing the demo. :D

Thanks in advance.

yes...i am using the latest drivers as mentioned by anish.

i dunno how to check the temperature while playing

but just after i close the game, the meter reads arnd 70C.

just checked...the freeze occurs at arnd 53% in speed trap (demo)

played tat twice and the game freezed at the same point twice.

plus there are numerous stop and go during the race distance

lasting half a second to 1 second...its kinda irritating...i'll check the game in low res as well.

run fraps in background and see what fps you are getting, what i think is the freezeups are occuring because your FPS are/is 0. howmuch RAM do u happen to have, if 256 or more, then it shouldnt be a problem...

^rave, qf has 512 mb ram, see the sig.

@qf, i think the freeze up's are happening @ ingame cutscenes, as your freeze happens exactly during a certain point.

there is a option which disables them, not sure, i dont have it installed now.

yea, sorry i didnt see that, hehe

cud be the jump cam??

same thing happened to me .it happens right as a cut scene starts or a new race starts ?
I defragmented the drive it was installed on , no problems after that.

nah..its the opposite way round...the framerate is 0 coz of the freezeups. :bleh:

normally i get average framerate of 30 (vsync enabled and tat locks the framerate at 30 i suppose)

and no its not the jump cam..

doesn't happen during cutscenes...the game freezes while i'm racing...

and mostly at 53% mark in the speedtrap demo.

k..i'll defragment the drive and check again. :)

holy frollicking frames per second batman! the cache registry tweak from tweakguides ROCKS! no stuttering in cities now! thanks Quicky :)

Your pc isn't running nearly as lean as it should be ;) You have a 6600gt too right?
I didn't face any stuttering in the first place at 1280 2xaa with just 512mb ram and I have many apps like joy2key, fraps, objectdock, y'z shadow, d-color etc. loading at startup (a total of 32 on a fresh boot).

I did get a slight 1ms hiccup thing every now and then, damn irritating in a fast racing game like this. Does this cache tweak fix that?
Enabling vsync kinda fixed that by locking framerate to 30, but that's cheap (although a locked framerate does feel much better).

nope defrag dint sort the issue...
i guess the prob is with the demo and maybe 512MB of RAM is not enuf :P

thankfully i'm not the only one facing such issues..
googled a bit and came up with this:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=31&threadid=1771935

also..found a great tweaking guide with all NFS : MW settings explained
http://www.tweakguides.com/NFSMW_1.html

must say its one of the best guides i've come accross. :)

If its the demo you are talking about, it freezes up for me too, but only on one sprint track. I doubt the entire map loads in one go, must be a load point.

you talkin to me or qf? your radeon 8500 system itself performed hurculean feats when you had it. teach me masta.

@saumilsingh

i too get those 1ms hiccups and they are really irritating. tried the cache tweak too but it din't fix the issue. even enabling vsync din't help.

k..got 1 GB of RAM and playing the full game now.

no hiccups, no pauses and smooth gameplay.

using z-tweaked 8212 drivers (based on forceware 82.12).

but...now the games crashes to desktop sometimes.

no freezes, no warning...just throws me straight to desktop all of a sudden.

any idea why? on 1024x768..2x AA, one notch car reflection update and with all other settings to highest possible. gives me about 30 fps constantly.
