Night vision Binoculars

Im looking to buy a Night vision Binocular/monocular. The gadget would be primarily used as Adventure gear whilst out on trails, hunting & security.

Keen on a Gen.1 binocular because gen2, 3, etc. are way expensive.

Suggest me some good model & from where to buy? Also can this item be imported via post or is it restricted?

Yes from what I've learnt, Night-Vision binoculars cannot be imported. Not sure though, could someone confirm whether these can be imported via courier or not?
 
Thanks. So if mono-oculars are allowed, so would Binoculars be. Not buying from ebay, they are charging way beyond the prices these items are available for.
 
Current Gen Night Vision binoculars cannot be exported from the US. The technology comes under restricted category. FAQ &lsaquo; Tactical Night Vision Company

According to this gen1 should be exportable without issues: ATN NIGHT VISION International section, nightvision for export, Gen 2+ Night vision, 2I, 2IA, CGTI versions
I dont think Shop and ship or anyone similar would take the risk and accept to export this. You would need to first get legal clarification in the US and then have someone ready to take the risk and get it through US customs :P

Basically not worth the effort.
 
@techie_007, Yes you are spot non, latest gens. cannot be exported but those cost a bomb too. So even if they were allowed I would not go near!

As a member above showed an ebay listing of a monocular, guess imports are coming in then. Regarding confirmation, I'll try talking to some sellers, lets see their response. Guess Amazon is also not taking orders for this from India.


So Im kind of in a fix, till I confirm whether it can be exported/imported, can't go ahead with the purchase.

Its been a really long time since I poured over night vision devices over the internet ( I have a monocular thats been lying for quite a while, passed on by someone but it refused to work; reminds me to get back to it).
Best company (IMO): ATN
AFAIK only Gen 1 will be allowed to civilians (or for export, which one I dont recollect). Getting it delivered? Good luck to you, but customs 'might' be a shitstorm.

Because Gen I N.V.G's which were developed by the German's in the later days of World War II and perfected by the US when they entered Vietnam are generally bulky and the resolution power is very poor (basically details are lost over distance).

Towards the late 80's Gen II N.V.G's (better detail resolution and lighter devices) started to appear and since the early 2000's we have had Gen III / Gen 2.5 devices (best resolution currently, very light devices) in service of the western military.

If you still cannot understand why these devices are not allowed to be imported by just anyone then please post / PM me. Cheerio!
