Ok, planning on going in for a D-SLR in the new year.
Pretty much narrowed down to the two cameras mentioned. One advantage of the Pentax for me, is that it's slightly cheaper, weather-proof, and backward compatibility with my older set of Pentax lenses, which Dad had invested in with his film Asahi Pentax.

On the other hand, I've been told that those lenses won't really be good with the newer 14.6MP sensor on the K20D, and that I'll have to invest in a full set of new lenses anyway.

if that is the case, then the D90 looks quite decent. Low light AF is better than the K20D, and the lenses are more widely available in India as well. If you ask anyone for Pentax lens systems here..best of luck!

A third alternative is to get the Pentax K200D, with a 10MP sensor, it should do well with the older lenses, and of course, it's a fair bit cheaper.

What do you guys suggest?

Could you list what all lenses do you have right now? That will make it easier to say. About the D90 - well considering the prices its being sold at, I'd rather take a 40D or up the budget to a D300.

^I have a fisheye, a 50-200mm zoom, and 3 more, which I can't find right now..house is undergoing renovation. They're around here somewhere!

Those are pretty damn good lenses. I'd say stick with Pentax in that case. No use investing in a completely new system.

I am looking for Rokkor PG lenses in chennai. I found one f1.4 50mm. In older lenses you may lose auto focus but pentax deployed focus trap in K20d hence i suggest you to get k20d. Though the lens resolution can be an issue but it wont be a major one.

I'd go with Chaos' opinion. Considering you have quality glass already with you, the K20D or the K200/K2000 would all be good options.

The K20D wins for the great weather-sealed body and all the semi-pro addons u get, and the sensor's not too bad though there is a lot of banding that I've seen in high ISO shots.

List the other lens (am sure some of them are typical Pentax primes) and then let's draw up the cost of a similar system in Canikon for you to make a good judgement. :)
