Hey Guys,
Since yesterday I have this weird problem with my April 2012 Purchased Corsair HX 850 PSU. Yesterday I got a heart attack when i pushed the power button and the PC didn't turn on, everything else ex. monitor, speakers etc was on.. there was no led on the power or on motherboard. So i opened it up cleaned everything, connected it back & it worked. I was relieved, then in morning i started my computer & it worked just as normal I did my routine work and turned it off. After Lunch when I started my PC again, It wouldn't turn on....same issue, no power.. I tried the switch of the PSU, changed the Power Cable... Connected it directly to the Power Switch instead of via APC BackupUPS Pro 1500. nothing seemed to work. So i disconnected and opened it up again and removed all the connections from the PSU to Motherboard & hard drives, just kept 1 fan connected so i can see if it works or not, i tried the other way of checking psu by connecting the Green cable & 3rd black cable from the opposite side... it still didn't work.
I thought it was dead... so I had to go through the painful method of switch out the smps's. I have a Cooler Master 500 Watts, which is used in my Home Media Server. I took that out & connected everything back to my pc and started that up... now when i was packing the Corsair in the box so that i could give for RMA I thought i should try once again and this time since it was out i could see the PSU Fan on the inside. To my surprise the fan inside was spinning. So what's wrong? Why was it having problems?
The APC Backup UPS Pro I have shows me exact usage in Watts, My i7 on idle only consumes about 160 watts, this is including 2.1 Speakers, 2 LCD Monitors, 1 Switch & 3 Routers all connected to that UPS. So I am sure I am not Over using the Corsair HX 850, I only have a 9800GT card in there.
Should I give it for RMA? & Will Corsair accept it as RMA? as it seems the fan is spinning now on the PSU?
