Guys,
I am not able to play any sound on my system. I checked out the 'Sound Devices' icon in Control Panel but it says that 'no audio hardware found'. I'm going to list down a few details of what's been happening with my comp over the last few days so u can spot the problem.

1. Got a new LCD monitor and played around with the video driver quite a lot to get the desired resolution.
2. Got a new net connection and somehow got a trojan called 'Malware Doctor' on my system.
3. Ran 'spywaredoctor',''antimalwarebytes' and 'superantispyware' in that order to rid my system of this 'Malware Doctor'. SpywareDoctor detected some threats but didn't delete anything 'coz of no registration.
Antimalwarebytes detected a lot of trojans and cured/deleted a lot of files but couldn't get rid of 'Malware Doctor'.
Finally superantispyware deleted that malwaredoctor but again cured/deleted a lot of files with that.
4. After detecting no sound somewhere along step 3, I uninstalled and again installed the VIA audio driver (for my MSI K8MM-V mobo) but of no avail. I still don't have any sound on my system and surprisingly(or not) mplayer is also not showing any sound option.

Personally I don't think it's a driver issue anymore as I have reinstalled it. Anyways please offer ur suggestions as to what can be the case.

There may be a chance that your onboard audio has busted. I had faced a similar issue in the past. I got myself an el-chepo sound card as a temporary option.

This is one problem with onboard 'everything' mobos. My last Asus mobo had issues with both onboard audio and networking ports after around 1 yr of working.
