Hi,

I have a Acer Aspire 4520 Laptop which has a Realtek sound device....
The problem is that i cant hear the sound whatsoever!:(

The Laptop came with no OS...
I had Vista on it and it was working...but suddenly one day...no sound:huh:

Now i have upgraded to Win7 and still no sound:@

All the drivers are up to date and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times...no joy:(

When i attach a external speaker through the jack it works fine....

when i pull up the volume icon from the notification area when am playing something it shows that its playing the sound(I can see the green bar fluctuating)...but cant hear the sound...:S

Thanks in Advance!!

Format C drive, if it is more than 20GB then format whole HDD (after backing-up data) make 2 partitions. 20GB C drive rest D or E drive. Install fresh windows 7, never upgrade OS.

Thanks for the quick reply Rockfella!

I have formated the C drive already...by upgrade i meant installed windows 7...i have done a clean installation....

Thanks!

Then god help u, 'coz i had the same problem in one of my friend's laptop. Audio is very very low!

Since you say that you can hear the sound from external speaker, it seems your lappy's inbuilt speaker has gone kaput . If you want to service your internal speakers dont give it to the acer authorised service centre (especially dotcom). They will screw your laptop and replace your lappy's components with old/duplicate ones.

Recently i gave my acer laptop to DOTCOM which is the authorized service centre for acer. They told me that even if they cant repair the laptop, I will have to bear Rs.300 as charges. But they assured me that it will only be a rare case, and surely they will repair it. They kept the lappy with them for about 10 days and they told that it is impossible for them to re-work the lappy's mobo and the mobo itself has to be replaced which costs 13k :@ Then i got back my lappy and sold it. The purchaser after inspecting my lappy for sometime took it and paid the money. The next day he told that some of the essential components of the lappy were found missing which he confirmed it through a lappy engineer  . Then i realised that this must have been done by the acer guys because this is the first time i am giving my lappy for service. By this time the purchaser might have succesfully repaired it in some other service centre sold it to someone. So be careful with acer guys...

Dude... if you haven't tried the latest drivers from the Realtek site do give it a shot. I am on an Asus P5Q Pro and the audio level was waaay too low. This is the link. In case this also doesnt work then I guess either the speaker wire got unhooked or speaker might've conked off...

Thanks guys,

I was using win 7 Ultimate 32bit....dint wanna give up....so gave one more try and reinstalled Win7 Ultimate(Clean install by formatting C:/ drive and this time 64bit OS)...

And also downloaded and installed the latest drivers for Realtek...

Unfortunately no joy:(...its still the same...even i hv started thinking that the Speaker has gone kaput:@...will have to wait till next month will gv it to Dad's friend to look into it...he has a Computer shopee...

Anyways Thanks again!

32 bit to 64 bit is usually more troublesome! Good try, people who are not afraid to experiment usually learn faster :cool2: repped.

This may be a long shot, but have you tried installing the drivers in compatibility mode?

Right click on the installer and select the 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' option, and select 'This ran in an older version of Windows' (I paraphrased that last bit, don't remember what it said exactly.)
