PC Peripherals No sound output from PC

I was cleaning from pc today and found that there is no sound output coming out of PC now what should i check now i mean are there any cables which could have come out ?
 
whats ur OS, in some mobo the front panal audio cable has to be plugged to get output from the rear ports, check it. Is is displayed under windows device manager?
 
1. Check device manager if it is showing any problems with sound drivers
2. Check the 3.5 mm jack connected to the correct pin at the back.
 
What OS are you using? try a linux live cd, if you get no sound there then there is a chance that your sound chip have developed some fault.
 
Pins are plugged in correctly not sure whether the live cd would actually work

O.S is WinXP
