Last month Samsung announced its new technology called Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution, enabling usage of all 8 cores simultaneously in the Exynos 5 Octa SoCs. It was expected that the current smartphones using the chipset - Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note III would get the feature via an update.
But now Samsung's senior technical expert Oleg Artamonov has said that the current devices won't be getting the feature, due to stability and reliability concerns.
The big.LITTLE architecture chips have four high performance Cortex A15 cores and four power efficient Cortex A7 cores. Currently available SoCs use only four cores at once, depending on the load and performance required. Enabling all eight cores will result in higher heat dissipation and may cause instability, according to Samsung.
Samsung has also told the source that older devices will be updated to Android 4.3 by this fall.
