No wired internet, only wireless works

I have YOU broadband connection at my home. The existing setup is like this

Cable from outside -> CISCO Modem provided by YOU ->LAN cable-> TP Link Wifi router

This setup works absolutely fine and i can access all my devices like laptop, phone, tablet through wifi. I have fed the YOU broadband id and password too in the wireless router.

Now if i try to remove wireless modem from this and connect the LAN cable directly from modem to laptop, all i get is a yellow caution type symbol over the network connected symbol in system tray. I cannot access internet through this. I am not providing any id / password anywhere as i do not remember where to give the same.
Not sure how i did it initially (anyone knows ?)

I did not even remember the password of my YOU broadband connection so i opened the TP Link wifi router page (192.168.1.1) and went to the WAN / PPPoE setting page and used a software to reveal the password behind the bullets. That's when i got to know what the password is.

Also to try as an alternate, i kept everything as shown at the top. But this time i connected the LAN cable from wifi router to laptop

Cable from outside -> CISCO Modem provided by YOU ->LAN cable-> TP Link Wifi router -> LAN Cable -> Laptop

Here i have deliberately turned wifi off in my laptop and only using wired connection throughout. Still i am unable to connect to internet. Still get the yellow caution triangle besides the network icon.

Anyone knows what might be the problem and how to restore wired connectivity ?

Let me know if more information is needed.

To get pc to work directly connected to the modem, you would need to create a dialer on the PC that sends this over. But you should not need to, the cisco modem should have settings to do it directly.

Try different LAN ports on the tp-link. Which model is it btw ?

Did not realise that you telecom used ppoe, that usually for ADSL. Cable wallahs normally tie to the mac address of the modem.

I have ordered TP link 740n router from flipkart and having cable LAN connection at home PC, with TP link router can I access smartphone through wifi?

First scenario: When you plug your laptop directly to the You Modem, you need to create some kind of dialer where you put the username/password and get onto the the internet. Call up You, they will guide you in a jiffy.
Second scenario: When you plug your laptop's LAN cable into the router, you should go on to the internet, given the internet is working over WiFi. Just check if you are getting the DHCP IP address from the router to the wired LAN card on the laptop. If for some reason there is a static IP assigned you need to save the details and put it on DHCP, or else assign a static IP matching your router's range.
