Nokia 5228 is the cheaper GPS-less non-3G twin bro of 5230

Yesterday, kind of secretly, Nokia announced the 5228. At first look you will hardly find difference between the newbie and its sibling, the Nokia 5230. But that's only because it is hidden deep under the hood: the new Nokia 5228 is the GPS-less version of the 5230.

The 5228 also lacks 3G support. But wait, wasn't there already a device like that? Does the name Nokia 5233 ring a bell?

Other than that 5230 and 5228 share the same hardware and software. They both feature 3.2" resistive touchscreens of 360 x 640 pixel resolution, 2-megapixel fixed focus cameras with video recording. And here comes another, this time minor, difference: while the Nokia 5230 can shoot VGA videos at 30fps the 5228 is able of only taking nHD videos (640 x 360 pixels @ 30fps), though we suspect that this might be a typo.

The Nokia 5228 runs the Symbian OS v9.4 (Series 60 rel. 5) and packs support for EDGE, Bluetooth (v2.0 with A2DP) and comes with a microUSB port and a standard 3.5mm audio jack on board. Its inbuilt memory reaches 70MB and can be expanded through the microSD card slot able to accommodate cards with up to 16GB of memory.

The new 5228 is powered by the 5230's 1320 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is said to guarantee up to 33 hours of non-stop music playback or up to 4 hours of video playback. It should also keep the smartphone alive up to 18 days in standby mode or to give you up to 7 hours of talk time.

The Nokia 5228 will be available in two front color version - black and white, while the back will be painted in red, pink, blue, yellow, silver or dark silver. The phone is expected to start selling sometime in July for 139 euro (after taxes but before subsides).

But why so many phones in this range ? I am totally phucked up right now . I don't know when will Nokia stop hurting its own sales . Nokia 5230 was good , Nokia 5233 was even better , Nokia 5235 was ok with added music but now Nokia 5228 which sports nHD recording if phucking for people who own even Nokia 5800XM and Nokia 5530XM, Nokia 5230XM

This is injustice

@ Dark Star - Nokia 5233XM has no GPS . Nokia 5230 has GPS :p

Clarify it here : Nokia 5233 - Full phone specifications

nokia is following samsung it seems , samsung's mid range sales is spoiled by similar looking cheaper corby etc , now nokia released so many phones similar to 5800 after its success ...

i upgraded from 5800 for same reason that there were too many similar phones and 5800 felt like cheap phone with same boring feel as 5233 5230 and so on ....

Bingo .tHATs that's the whole point . I mean Nokia is not doing justice to Nokia 5800XM owners or even Nokia 5230XM owners. In this way Nokia is harming its own sales

The 5230 is not branded as an XpressMusic phone, and it lacks stereo speakers.

Nope, its the same as 5233 which was released for India only. GSMArena lists 5228 and 5233 as same.

Besides, my 5230 can shoot nHD video so what's new about that ? :S
