Let’s have a look at the phone now.

Design:
At the front, we have a large screen below which there is a joystick, with 2 soft keys and Call and End keys around it. The Menu and Cancel keys are rubber keys placed on the left and right side respectively. There is also the normal keypad in the front. On the left side we have the Volume +/- keys and the camera lens and flash. There is also one speaker on the top of the left side. On the right side there is an IR port and a rubber flap covering the charging port, miniUSB port and microSD slot. There is another speaker at the bottom of the right side. On the back side there are the music keys which include the play/pause button, fast forward and rewind button. These keys are also used to click pictures and zoom in/out when in the camera mode. When the phone is in default mode, the speakers are diagonally faced and when it is rotated to the music mode, both the speakers are on the left side. There is a 2.5 mm jack located at the bottom and the power button at the top.
[BREAK=Screen, Twisting Mechanism, Camera]
Screen:
This has to be one of the best screen on a phone I have ever seen. Its amazing 16M colour 2.2†TFT screen is just totally awesome. It’s very crisp and clear, the colours are very vibrant and you’ll have absolutely no problems reading in broad daylight. Watching videos on it is really great fun. :D
Screen: 10/10 :D

Keypad:
The keypad and joystick are very good. Most of the phones having large screens compromise on the keypad making it small and very uncomfortable to type. But this phone has a decent keypad and you’ll have no problems typing sms’es. :)

Twisting mechanism:
As you all know, the Nokia 5700 has the twisting keypad mechanism. The first thing on everyone’s mind would be if the twisting mechanism is fragile and will it become loose? Unlike the 3250 which also has a twisting mechanism but a bad one, this phone certainly is sturdy and the twisting part surely won’t become loose. A couple of falls also confirm this. :P Unless you seriously apply some force, I’m sure you’re not going to have any problems with it.
If you rotate it 90 degrees clockwise so the camera is facing you, the camera application opens and you can click your own picture or video or set it up for video conferencing. On rotating it 90 degrees further, the music keys are activated and the Music Player starts. The phone cannot rotate further and you have to twist it back in the reverse way. (Please keep this in mind while handling someone’s 5700 :P)
When in default mode (keypads facing you), if you rotate it the other way the camera faces away from you and the Camera application starts and you can take a snap or video. You cannot rotate further. (Again keep this in mind :P)

Camera:
Sadly, this phone’s camera is a disappointment. Though you can take excellent pictures outside in daylight and also indoors with perfect lighting conditions, snaps taken in the night or in not-so-good lighting conditions are bad. If you want to take a picture, make sure the lighting conditions are perfect. There is no autofocus. It has 4x digital zoom and a flash which does kinda come in handy. The camera options include Flash, Night mode, Sequence mode, Self-timer. You can adjust the white balance to Automatic, Sunny, Incandescent or Fluorescent. You can also set the colour tone to Normal, Sepia, Black & white or Negative.
Videos taken from the phone are actually quite good. With the perfect lighting conditions, you can capture excellent videos at 320 x 240 resolution in mp4 format.
One more thing while the base is rotated to take a picture, it’s a real big pain to use the joystick or the soft keys. You somehow have to manage to use it with your left hand thumb.
The camera was one thing that disappointed me and there are much better 2 mp camera phones out there. So if camera is your priority, this phone isn’t for you.
Cam: 7/10
[BREAK=Speakers, Battery, Music]
Speakers:
Sound from the speakers is loud and clear. It may not be as loud as the N73, but you surely will be able to hear your phone ringing easily in a crowded/noisy place. I personally find the sound through the speakers to be better than N73.
One weird thing with this phone is that while playing music through the loudspeaker, the whole phone literally vibrates :S. Don’t know why but the phone vibrates when playing at high volume.
Speaker: 9/10

Battery Life:
This phone comes equipped with a BP-5M 900 mAh battery. The phone lasts for a maximum of 2 days with heavy usage. With normal usage, it should last for a maximum of 2.5 days. So, it has a pretty decent battery life too.
Battery: 9/10

Music Playback:
As an XpressMusic phone, you expect the Nokia 5700 to have great music quality, and you surely won’t be disappointed. This phone has one of the best music playback on a phone. The sound quality through the earphones is just simply amazing! The phone has a 2.5 mm jack and comes with a 2.5 mm headset to which you can plug in your own regular earphones to the 3.5 mm jack of the adapter. The bundled earphones are decent but not that great. Plug in a pair of ep-630 and you’ll notice an obvious difference. Music through your own headphones is just awesome and the best I have seen on a phone! It has A2DP support which is expected from a music phone. It also has a 5-band equalizer. With support for file formats like MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, you have a complete music player. With Nokia 5700 and a good pair of earphones, you won’t be needing your MP3 player. :D
One thing though, I would have liked a 3.5 mm jack instead of a 2.5 mm jack so I could directly plug in my earphones without the use if the headset adapter.
Music: 10/10 :hap2:
[BREAK=Performance, Features]
Performance:
The Nokia 5700 has the latest Symbian OS v9.2, S60 rel. 3.1 which is much faster than v9.1. There is literally no lag and the phone is very responsive. Even images load up pretty quick. As the phone is S60, there thousands of applications easily available.
As usual Nokia phones are good in network reception, so is this one. The voice quality is also very clear.
Performance: 10/10

Data Transfer:
You can transfer data through Bluetooth 2.0 and IR. It also has a miniUSB for transferring data to your PC which is just great. No need for that stupid Nokia POP port cable. Just plug in your regular minUSB cable and you are set to go. :D

Other features:
This phone has all the other features like FM, RealOne player, Flash player, Calendar, Clock, Notes, Calculator, Converter, Web browser, etc. It comes with 2 games pre-installed- Marble and City Bloxx.

One thing I don’t like is the rubber flap which covers the charging port, miniUSB port and microSD slot. I would have liked it if they had placed the charging port somewhere else since it requires removing the rubber flap every time for charging. Though it doesn’t look like the rubber flap will come off but still it would have been better if it was placed somewhere else.
[BREAK=Conclusion]
Conclusion:
This phone seems to be a complete package with a 2 mp camera, excellent music player, EGDE, 3G, Symbian S60, etc. It seems to have everything you need.
When I was looking to buy a phone 3 months back, my main priority was good music playback. I didn’t need an excellent cam and wanted a Symbian OS. I didn’t want to buy N73 as it was becoming very common and my dad also has it. :P So I settled for this phone which really appealed to me and I’m very happy with it. Been using it for 3 months and haven’t faced any problems with it yet. :D

Pros:
• Excellent music playback
• Excellent 16M colour 2.2†TFT Screen
• Faster S60 v9.2 OS

Cons:
• Camera could have been better
• 3.5 mm jack should have been there instead of 2.5 mm jack
