My brother has a nokia 6630 phone. Yesterday when browsing the file system using FE Explorer, i noticed that at many places on my memory card there are .exe files created. Like i the sounds folder apart from the default "Digital" and "Simple" folders, there is another folder that i had created for songs. The folder was named as "Songs". Now here too there is a file named "Songs.exe" I have no clue how this came ? Also it makes me wonder that all the exe files that i have are of the same size (284.x kb)

Please guide me as to what this is...

.exe's don't have place inside those folders unless its placed there, its most probably a virus ...and it must have found its way there via the pc when something was being transfered to it or via bluetooth , in the former reason your pc might also be infected.......remove the mem card and put it in a card reader and scan it using a good anti virus software to get rid of it :) , try formatting the card , then transfer something from the comp , if it comes back then u have it on ur comp too ........

I have avast antivirus installed on my machine with the latest updates. So if there ought to be a virus it should have been detected by it now.

Exactly!!!!have 6630 with me and had the same probs u faced, finally installed Avg updated antivirus and scan both comp and card+phone(though the phone is noot affected due to this virius only it eats up the memory space by making copies of all the stuff with the .exe exttension!!!)):)

First, remove card from mobile and then format it fully, then format ur phone by *#7370*

then install AVG or nod32 antivirus and scan PC, memory card..

If it detect virus then clean it if no the format the MMC again and insert in formatted 6630.. i was using this method for 6600, Ngage mobiles long time ago..

Using *#7370* will also delete all the contact information from the phone, something which i would not want to happen. Is there any workaround ??

Deleting the exe files will do the trick or what ??

thats a virus/worm on your pc not your mobile; .exe files anywayz wont affect your cell phone...the worm creates an xxx.exe file where "xxx" is the folder in which it is created...the executable files might have been created when you must have accessed your mmc via a card reader on your pc or your friends or anyone else's whose pc is prolly infected...scan your pc for viruses...also scan your mmc on your pc via card reader...

I generally do not use the card reader to access the MMC. But thru the Nokia Phone Browser. Still there may be chances of it getting affected ??

I will try scanning my PC over the weekend and also my MMC.

It seems like a harmless virus but still it means that my PC is affected and now i need to scan the same and get it rectified.

But, a PC virus will not affect a cellphone. So there is no need for any worry !

though it wont affect the cell phone, but it can infect his/others pc when a transfer takes place b/w his cell phone and the pc...
