Yes, most probably MS will provide the support.

Seems to be a very good device for the price. But why Windows RT :(

Because MS needs to keep W - RT alive. Dunno who got this idea about using the term "RT" :P

That reminds me, have they removed that stupid licensing term about using RT tablets in workplaces. Else no point in getting one and paying for an extra license for the tablet.

Yes absolutely, they should totally remove that condition cause @vivek.krishnan follows them so closely. Bad bad microsoft. Harassing the poor old law fearing guy who wont be able to sleep at night cause he would be breaking an *gasps* licensing term.

Puhleeze - come and work in deployment - where we ARE planning to deploy mobile tablets in the next 6 months, and then make better comments.

Everything about this tablet is impressive including price but only if it runs android or if they have given an option of dual boot android/windows like many other manufacturers these days.

MS should release a comparison list of apps between windows, android and IOS to make the general public aware that it is also catching up with the other eco systems.
So that the apps disadvantage thing is erased from the public's memory.
The general public wants apps and not the open ecosystem for playing around with the OS and installing custom ROM's

That's some wish! Why would MS release their tablet to Android OS? Does Google give an option to dual boot Nexus with WP8 (or Apple)?

^^Because those third-party OEMs already manufacture and sell a range of products, from Android to Windows to whatever they wish in the future; they are just hardware manufacturers. MS is encouraging them to include Windows RT and WP8 in their bigger offerings. Why would MS (including Nokia) themselves offer Android? Doesn't make sense.

Yep - and they should pay devs to port apps to Windows platform.

"Puhleeeze"? What are you, a teenage girl on her periods?

The reason they have that clause is cause they bundle Office for free. This is Microsoft office 2013 that they are giving away for free, not some cheap ass apple substitute. It makes sense to have different strategies for enterprise and consumer segment, most companies do. You unfortunately, as always, mix everything up to explain your skewered opinions.[DOUBLEPOST=1382613037][/DOUBLEPOST]

They already do that The original facebook app for Windows phone was a paid third party app. Microsoft paid a third party to make it.

Even now, a lot of these apps include significant direct/indirect microsoft involvement in terms of money, dev time, or resources.

ok, so this is take two for the windows mobile platform. Take three, next year is when it becomes viable. Cost + apps.

OP did not mention this tab does not come with a flash. The f1.9 aperture helps but no flash is a lack on this tab. Seems like they've stuck the lumia 720 camera in this tab.

Firstly, that was a response to your cliched and cheesy remark. Always, supporting everything done by MS, almost like a PR rep. What else :p

And, secondly, when anyone buys several Windows tablets for office use - say for CRM purposes - are they going to read the entire Office EULA which says not for commercial use without a volume license? You would. I would. My manager would. The rest of the world, I dont think so. So, its better to cut the crap out.

Kindly do understand that as solution providers, we have to take all these into account. Else, its our ass on the line. When MS comes calling, they are going to say, pony up for the licenses.

Windows RT, IMO sells on mainly one thing for businesses - Office. And familiarity with Windows.

As for "cheap ass apple" substitues, I dont know. Many people are fine with them. And they use it well also. I dont think that a lot of people use Office to the max, either.

Considering all this, do you think MS is doing the right thing? Not by me.

I just prefer to play the devils advocate when you go on a rant over here. Which is a bit too often for anyone that claims to speak of logic and doing the right thing.

Secondly, its understandable that a company would provide perks in a market that it lacks ie the consumer market. They do pretty well in the enterprise market and that's the reason they don't need to give perks. Not very hard to understand. Besides I dont know of any significant company except an airline that uses Surface RT. Its a new product.

Thirdly, we weren't even talking about the enterprise market or bulk buys over here. You brought it up cause well its your habit to just trash Microsoft. I prefer everyone have a clear opinion. Licensing is a relevant point in your company if there is a bulk for business purposes. And it makes sense for you to consider those. Here its exclusively consumer market models being talked about.

RT is not perfect but if you aren't very big on apps, it has most of the essential ones. And no it does not sell cause of Office. But Office is a perk that makes it a very very sweet deal, its a very nifty OS (especially the surface and now the Lumia tablet.)

And LOL about other microsoft alternatives. Apple is giving its suite for free cause no one buys it. Google acquired a mobile office solutions company and that's in the drainage too. Besides Microsoft is offering killer deals with office365 subscription that covers latest versions for almost every device(Windows phone, iOS, Android, Windows) for FREE. I dont understand what a company needs to do to make you say that its a good product? Killer pricing, a product that cant be matched for even 20% of its value by another competitor and with wide scale coverage of even the competing platforms.

I rant enough about microsoft products and frankly I like to, but when you make it an environment like this where you just keep coming and trashing for stupid or irrelevant reasons, it makes those with genuine opinions think twice since most of the devices arent anywhere near as bad as you make them sound.

Compared to android tablets (and i use one everyday) the RT devices are miles ahead(except for the lack of games) by any stretch of imagination.

And, you are not playing devils advocate. You are defending them, for sure.

Also, would like to end this bickering with a person who makes it his point to only counter anyone questioning Microsoft in any way.

Disclaimer : I do not work for any company with any sort of biased interests towards Microsoft. But - I seriously wish, I was :D
