My phone automatically connects to the gprs and I always see an "E" symbol next to the signal bar. This is causing the battery to drain out in just two days. I dont want my phone to automatically connect to the packet connection, but instead when I open an application which uses internet.

Is there anyway to control it. For now I have to delete my gprs connection setting to stop it from connecting automatically.

Please help guys!

Check the widgets and running apps.

also check Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Settings. select 'wifi only' instead of 'automatic' for home network and roaming network.

No apps are running in the background. And the above mentioned path is not available. I mean there is no "settings" option in "connectivity" where you can change the wifi thing.

if you are seeing solid arrows ,then only your phone is connected to internet and if you see broken arrows below that E mark, that means ,you have EDGE (E) available to connect.

go to network setings and disable packet data to when required from when available.

And dude, 2 days is good backup! , i get a max of 30 hours

and Wat pratikb has said is correct,

if you want to remove the E sign, do this!

Menu>> Control Panel>> Settings>>Connection>> Packet data

there u can select Packet data connection and change it to "when needed", and there goes your E sign!

One thing i have noticed when it is put to that mode, is that it will take tmore time to connect to the internet !

I really don't know whether changing it will increase the battery life significantly or not!

Maybe Dhruvrock2000 can help with that! :)

Hope this is wat you were looking for!

Its already in when needed mode. Is there any free task manager I can use to check the background processes or startup apps?

Do u use Google search or maps or the Nokia Email app??
