Mini preview:

Today I got my hands on the LG Optimus 2X and Optimus BLACK at CITIWALK around 8:30pm.

Lets start with

OPTIMUS 2X:
Laggy, I never expected a DUAL CORE processor based Android to lag soo much. Everything, even screen scrolling was laggy. And I think this was the retail unit for sale. The camera is good, but the AUTOFOCUS on touch that SMasung galaxy S and iPhone 4 offers is nowhere to be found. Video was off and the sharpness was too much. Sorry for no pics. It was dark there and plus, they were closing, so cound't get the vids or pics from the phone as sample(stupid phone had no charge or internal memory storage enough to save anything, thats what the pop-up message kept saying).

Overall, nothing to see here. 2X or dual-core is just the Hype. Nothing more.

Optimus BLACK
Now here I was left wanting for soo much more. Soo much for the NOVA BLACK display, I couldn't find this display to do anything but give slight better brightness that the 2X or Wave II or Samsung Galaxy S(which I also had a zip through on the opposite stall). THe Wave II's speed impressed me a ot, but it's interface leaves much much to be desired.

I found the Motorola Defy's interface by far one of the most responsive and lag-free one which I had a hands-on two days ago. Alongwith I compared the Nokia C7 which utterly beat the androids in terms of speed and non-lagness.
Nokia E7
Last up the hood was the E7. I saw the N8, but seeing their similar design, I thought to go for E7. Now E7 disappointed me. In C7, the OVI STORE was completely super fast alongwith everyother thing I did.

Infact I had every application remaining running on the background, but no lag. Wonders to SYMBIAN^3 Optimisation. E7, well I dont understand why it was lagging. Maybe this was a bad unit but the KEYBOARD, WOW WOW WOW. Slide out feels Soooo natural, so perfect and typing works better than anything I've ever used(i've used Corby, Wave, Blackberry 3 different models, curve bold and torch) and this was BY-FAR the BEST I have used. Hats off to NOKIA to make E7 slimmer than N8 itself(physically compared) yet cram a keyboard.
There I wrap up. Again I apologize for lack of pictures. I had to rush to catch the AMAZING B-BOYING performance of the Korean Festival going on at Citiwalk, which I was so fortunat to witness. The dance blew my mind away(so did their food, uniquely amazing)

Also, had a go through KIZASHI(car), but wasnt impressed. the interiors was good, but if anybody was gone through a Volkswagen Vento, you wont find THAT MUCH to see here.

Well, there ends my super-excited journey. As I finish this article, I'm off to watch a movie. Hope this was helpful(and once again sorry for soo much text)...

Good night

A friend bought a E7, its very laggy.. the LG Optimus one is more responsive than the E7

And the icons in the menu on E7 are massive, they could have easily accommodated another row of icons instead of having super sized huge icons.

Oh about typing on the touchscreen, Samsung Galaxy S and Wave II had downright the best touchscreen keyboard and accuracy. LG Optimus was simply either too laggy even while taking the input, or wrong in callibration.

Yes, funny why the hell E7 is laggy, since the internal hardware is same, and I found the C7 to be super responsive.

Umm... was the update installed on the E7 ? It was just pushed out two days back.

Check out this video i took... i really dont see it lagging

It was USING PR1.0 so I dont think any update was installed. BTW I forgot to post the MSRP:

Nokia E7 - Rs. 29,990

LG Optimus BLACK - Rs. 25,990

LG optimus 2X - Rs. 26,990

The prices are excellent. 27k for a dual core? Hell yeah!

No freaking way. The 2X is cheaper than the Xperia Arc and costs the same as an Incredible S !
I am so buying it

i too have been impressed by the build quality of E7..havent bought it though..used a friend's....i am impressedd with nokia.....i have nokia E5..and it is zippy fast..even with 20 apps running in the backgroud....i was expecting the same if not more than that...will test again...

Cool :) MSRP Rs.26,990 means it will be ~26k-26.5k street price at launch. Super pricing for dual core one.

And when quad core comes, it will be half the price i.e. 12k and I can exchange my LG P500 for it:P:P just kidding...

Again i feel all these muscle power of the dual core comes into play when we have good 3G n/ws as I hope telephony is the only useful thing in a phone when it doesn't have the data connection, may be we can time pass with the camera but again once you take the pictures you would obviously like to upload to facebook or other sites if you are on the move..

I was excited about these dual cores but end of the day i don't find interesting to browse the internet or take pics or even like to play on a 4.3 inch screen while I have a PC @ home (i know its not portabe but sheer gaming comes into play when you game on pcs or on your consoles)

So instead of spending 26k on a phone I could either buy a console or build half of a good gaming rig.. I mean spending 10-12k on a mobile is well sufficient as for that price tag, you get a min 3.2 inch, 3.2MP camera, 600MHz processor and of course the favourite Andriod boy:P

Quad Cores will come soon, but considering there are some pre-order prices of DUal core Phones (galaxy S II for eg and Atrix 4G) going as high as 949$, I think quad cores will come at an ever higher premium. And no, that wont mean cheaper duals too. Those greedy mutts wont make such offers. And google has made something like 1GHz or dual core minimum for future versions of androids. So all we can expect at budget phones are old android version and 600-800Mhz ARM 11 with a Adreno 200 for this year..

guys,

but is android fully optimissed for all this multicore?

only v3 is optimised.

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

expect lockdown more in line with windows phone 7.

as far as multicore optimisations go,

only honeycomb is optimised and great google is planning to keep tablet os and phone os seprate.

so lets wait till we see fully optimised android

Which kinda makes me feel that Symbian is doing quite well even on its kinda slow proc. Being GPU accelerated really helps.

is GPU accelerated only a Nokia thing?? any links to prove that?

And Dual core hardware is already available for android, which is a good thing although the OS is not optimized. (And optimizations already available for HoneyComb proves they just need to port it to Mobile OS)

But with Nokia, they have the same proc for the whole range of 15K to 30K phones and no announcements to move to Dual core or higher clocked proc.

Did i anywhere state that this is a Nokia only thing ? Oh and wanna bet that within the next six months we will see dual core processors and gighertz clock speeds on Symbian device ;)

Meh... i just don't get the hatred towards it.

I dont have any hatred towards Nokia...

But when you talk about a feature that helps Nokia E7, next we should not talk about how a processor helps E7 to be fast because its something that all phones have at that price point.

So I failed to understand your point of GPU accelerated helps the Nokia E7 and hence the post.

And Dual core has already been announced by every other manufacturer, Nokia is already late to the party and the obvious dilemma to launch a Symbian Dual core or a Win Phone Dual core?

And even a Apple Iphone 3G having a 434 MHz proc runs iOS 4.1 pretty decent... its all about optimization and tweaking a OS for a platform (OS + GPU + RAM)

^^ If its all about optimization and tweaking , why do you complain that Nokia is late to the party ? My N8 and E7 are plenty fast. Not speaking as a fanboy.. i have other devices too i just like to root for the underdog.

I was talking about GPU acceleration helping speed up stuff.. not in reference to the E7.

PS : There is no dilemma , dual core Symbian is coming.

and who exactly are making Symbian devices anymore :P?

And then what? Lower battery life and a 5% faster UI thats all Nokia would get out of a Dual Core or 1GHz+ CPU. Symbian has excellent CPU and memory management so Nokia clearly doesn't need to work on hardware, its the UI and features that Nokia needs to innovate if they want to save Symbian.

Perhaps the only innovative feature that Nokia has is USB OTG and thats about it.
