Nokia's cheapest Lumia smartphone running on the old (aged) Windows Phone 7 platform is now shipping with the Windows Phone 7.8 update pre-installed. The Nokia Lumia 510 is very much like the previously released Lumia 610. The only changes between the two smartphones is their screen size, and the software version. Needless to say, as the naming convention indicates, the Lumia 510 is the cheaper of the two.

The Lumia 510 is an entry level Windows Phone smartphone, but it's specifications are a mixed bag. The device packs a 4" WVGA (800*480) TFT capacitive display. However, the display supports only 65k colors. The chipset is an ancient and slow Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 MSM7227A based on ARM Cortex A5 running at 800 MHz only. We are looking at the prehistoric Adreno 200 GPU. However, thanks to the level of optimization Microsoft has achieved with Windows Phone, the OS runs smoothly. That applies for the paltry 256 MB of RAM that the device packs.
Perhaps one of the biggest blows is the limited 4 GB of internal storage. There is no expandable storage, so you are stuck with 4 GB only. People who like to carry their music collection around in their phones should start looking elsewhere already. A 5 MP rear camera with auto focus is at the back of the device. It is capable of VGA video recording @ 30 fps only. Lackbuster.
The phone is quite thick, at 11.5 mm. But then again since when has Nokia been making super thin smartphones. A 1300 mAh rated battery is able to provide enough juice (to the relatively low power sipping Windows Phone OS) for nearly a day's usage. The phone comes with Windows Phone 7.8, which is the single biggest attraction of this smartphone.
