Only a couple of days ago Microsoft announced that it will be releasing the Windows Phone 7.8 update for the current crop of Windows Phone 7.5 devices in Q1 of 2013, but the fact remains that Microsoft has not revealed much about the OS apart from the new Start Screen. While that remains the same, YouTube user PhoneCatTV has posted a video of a Nokia Lumia 900 running a preview version of Windows Phone 7.8.

There is nothing new in the video as the even the Lumia 900 in the video only showcases the new Start Screen that has resizable tiles. Microsoft has also said that we can expect some new mid-range devices to be out that ship with new OS, perhaps faster than the vague Q1 2013 update, so maybe that’s when we will get a better picture of what the OS is all about.

Frankly, while many have criticised Microsoft for not giving users many of the new features of Windows Phone 8, but the fact remains the main consumer benefit of Windows Phone 8 is the new Start Screen and that’s something all the users of Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones will get. In fact, most of the new features introduced in Windows Phone 8 are hardware centric and more related to the technological underpinnings of the OS rather than real world consumer advantages. In the meanwhile checkout the video below.
