Nokia making a Series 40 phone, with 1GHz processor

This comes as a bit of surprise to us but it seems Nokia is working on a Series 40 handset with 1GHz processor and a ClearBlack capacitive touchscreen Display. Yes, that’s exactly the reaction we had when we first read about it too.

That’s not all, this phone will also have 512MB of RAM, QWERTY keypad, Wi-Fi, HSDPA and an application store to download apps from. This information comes courtesy Nokia’s Manager of Marketing in Argentina through his Twitter account.
Now we wonder why on earth would Nokia want to run its feature phones on a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, especially when its Symbian smartphones come with much lesser hardware. Whatever it is, we hope we would get a glimpse of this device in a couple of days at Nokia Connection 2011 in Singapore.

600Mhz processors for the laggy E7 and N8 and 1Ghz for a S40 phone? nokia going mad or what,cant they put this 1Ghz+512MB ram in N8.
 
s40 is a very old platform and should be shutdown. No matter how fast proccy one introduces for s40, it will still be slow as compared to s60.

s40 is just good for very cheap phones but i doubt that after 1ghz proccy, the prices will still be the same.

If an s40 is introduced for >10k, then it will go flop coz one gets an good android within that range & a nokia lover will get a descent s60 platform phone much much better than the grandfather s40.

s40 wont be a success even though if you speed it, i guess nokia is trying to save s40 platform from dying. Appreciable, but then your need to re-develop s40 & release its new version like how we have s60v1/v2/v3...etc..

Revision on the s40 OS platform should be considered before releasing the same old ones just with a new proccy. Else its not gonna work.
 
i think it will be a revamped S40 with anna ui+multitasking capabilities+good battery life+good hardware+low price= GOOD SALES

A S40 with 1Ghz? I am pretty sure Nokia is not that Mad to do this... There should be something else..

After reading this news few hours ago, I am still trying to understand why (if its true) is Nokia releasing a S40 handset with such high end (by Nokia standards) specs!! Even the S^3 flagships don't have this kind of horsepower :S

The only way its justifiable is if

a. They have done something reaallly earth shattering "disruptive", innovative things with S40 (which I seriously doubt :lol:)

b. this is their new baseline spec sheet. So all smart phone will have ONLY better config than this (which I seriously doubt :lol:)

c. Nokia / Elop have gone crazy

Instead of all this, please release the MeeGo phone already...
 
So I can conclude that Nokia still hasn't got the idea that software is more important part of a phone than the hardware specs even after so much sufferings in sales.
 
It looks outstanding to say the very least. Very different design, and the UI looks fresh. It also seems to be fast. It would be great if Nokia continues to support MeeGo
