Nokia Showcases Wibree as an Alternative to Bluetooth

Nokia promises that its Wibree wireless connectivity standard is 10 times more energy efficient than Bluetooth
Wibree is Nokia's short-range wireless connection that is seen as a cheaper, more efficient alternative to Bluetooth.

Wibree would provide a connection link with speeds up to 1 Mbps at a distance of up to 30 feet. According to Nokia, Wibree can be implemented as a standalone solution or as a Bluetooth-Wibree module. Nokia see Wibree as a perfect fit for mobile phones, watches, wireless keyboards, sports and medical equipment as well as children’s toys.

Looks great...would be a great addition to the nokia's, wouldn't have to pay ericsson for bluetooth licensing....now only if this lives up to the potential

Nokia doesn't seem to have understood the old adage - Old standards die hard.

Bluetooth 2.0 already offers an enhanced data rate of 3MBps. Besides, will Wibree be compatible with Bluetooth? I think not. Bluetooth 2.0 already is.
