Nokia has just launched its new Asha 501 smartphone at a press event in India.
The Asha 501 is the first nex generation Asha series smartphone which runs new touchscreen platform and its design is inspired from the Lumia series.
It has two part construction with removable monobody and carries a 3 inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen. It runs new OS which is based on SmarterPhone which Nokia acquired in 2012.
The UI consists of homescreen dubbed Fastlane which is inspired by the swipe motion gestures on the Nokia N9.
Think of it as intelligent multitasking, or think of it as an interactive second home screen. Either way, Fastlane tracks your past, present and future, showing up to 50 of your most recent activities. It brings all the different elements of your smartphone experience together.
It comes with a 3.2MP rear camera, Wi-Fi and 4GB internal storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot. It comes with micro-SIM slot and will launch in both single and dual-SIM variants. The dual-SIM version will include Nokia's Easy-Swap technology.
The new platform is very battery efficent , the Asha 501 can run up to 48 days in stand-by mode and offers 17 hours of talktime with its 1200 mAh battery.
The Asha 501 will launch for $99 or Rs 5500.
